I did put the magnet inside the cover. I'm pulling the cover this weekned to change fluids. I didn't snap any pics of the final setup, but it was centered heel to toe and top to bottom. They have been ran for a little over 500 miles with no problems or too much heat. The new lockers front and...
Randy's sent me the outer slinger instead of the inner slinger, so now I'm again waiting for the slinger....... John, I'm nervous about running it with no slinger since it's a high pinion model. Have you ran a hp with no slinger before?
Thanks. I think I'll take your advice and try taking out .002" I'm waiting on the shims you sent me before I do it though. I had to order a .030" oil slinger from Randy's because mine was .060" and I was out of room to work with. Hopefully your shims and the slinger will come today and I can...
Actually. I don't care too much about gas millage, I'm more concerned with offroad. I'm putting a locker up front (lock rite) and changing the gears (4.56) and was just curious on how well the locker would act on the street since it's always going to be working whether I'm in 4wd or 2wd.
I...
I'm working on a 1999 XJ with a Dana 30 HP front end. How does the 4wd work on these? There are no locking hubs, so does the front ring / pinion and driveshaft always spin whether your in 2wd or 4wd? Sorry if it's a lame question, but I couldn't find any info on it by searching.
RCP Phx,
The specs I have for the backlash is .006 to .010. I figured I would split the difference and go with .008. What are you recomending? Anyone else have any input on the best backlash for a dana 30? Thanks
I'm using a case spreader. The case is spread to .015" and the carrier requires a light tap with a rubber mallet to seat it. The pinion is at .024" right now, but I still need to put the .020" oil baffle back in. So what I'll probebly do is run the baffle and a .003" shim which will total .023"...
I didn't change anything from the last pics. I was just trying to obtain a cleaner looking pattern so you guys could read it easier. I'm probebly going to do what others have said and remove about .002" and see what happens.
Here are some cleaner looking patterns. I tried adding a little oil to the paint and turning the ring by hand instead of with the pinion. What do you guys think? Still think its .002" too deep?
I didn't get anything less than .010" with my kit. I guess I'll need to order a kit from Randy's. So your saying that usually, shim kits come with .003" shims? That would be a lot of help if they do.
I'm swaping gears in my dana 30 hp front axle and subsituted the oil baffel thickness with shims for the setup and then planned on putting the oil baffel back in once I was complete with the extra shims that are needed. My problem is that the overall shim pack that gives me a good pattern is...
