I was thinking the exact same thing. AAA ran my 2001 off the rollers because the VIN bring the XJ up as a 4WD and I don't think they know it's not full time 4WD.
I've heard that smogs done not under load are easier to pass...but that's just what I've heard. All I know is my XJ was near zeros on...
WrenchMonkey, once you decide what to do, an update would be greatly appreciated. I'm facing a similar problem as you, plus I tow a 3300# trailer/car with a 350# tongue weight. I've been looking for something to replace the 500# helper springs I had to add in order to point my headlights back on...
The cheap-o generic battery that was in my XJ when I bought it lasted about 6 months. I replaced that with a gel battery from (I think) Auto Zone. That lasted 3 years. Since my XJ is my daily driver, I decided to spend the extra cash and get a battery from AAA. Those batteries come with a 6-year...
So here's an update: Thanks to AJ’s input, I decided to order a set of AJ’s Super Rails. AJ offered to make an adjusted set for my XJ, but I opted for ones right off the jig. It took about 8 business days for the sliders to arrive.
The test fit of the sliders revealed where the variances in my...
The scary part of getting involved in any kind of confrontation while you're carrying a weapon is not necessarily you using the weapon, but the drunk idiots managing to get the weapon from you.
But weapon or not, the right thing was done.
Weight is a factor. I like the idea of roof mounting for saving space in the XJ, but even a small off road tire on a steel wheel can weigh 65 pounds. There's a limit to what I can safely hoist over my head.
I took the measurements from the same places, one at the front and one at the rear on each side (before the unibody frame's little overlay at the rear). The front to rear measurements were the same on left and on the right, but comparing left to right there was a consistent difference. I checked...
Thanks for the info...I'm glad it's not just my XJ that's wonky. I'm thinking I'll get the sliders and just be prepared to make small spacers should I not be able to bend everything into place.
I've tried searching this forum and found nothing on this topic, so forgive me if I missed the answer in another thread.
I'm shopping for rock sliders for my XJ, and since most sliders seem to attach to the unibody frame rail and the pinch weld, I decided to measure that space on my XJ just to...
