I've got a 1993 XJ, lifted 4.5" with IRO springs and shackles. My drivetrain is a SYE with a CV driveshaft. I've been having a lot of drivetrain vibrations and have managed to get them down to a pretty reasonable level using axle shims (currently at an 8* shim).
However the vibes are...
A few years ago i picked up some IRO leaf springs that were "lightly" used. A few days ago a buddy pointed out that they are bent on one side (see pics). I don't wheel my rig very hard these days, so it's possible they were this way when i bought them...
My question is, what causes this...
I have a '93 Cherokee, 4.0L AW4 with 4.5" lift with 33's. I live in a smaller town where the speed limit is mostly 35. The problem i'm having is that the stupid AW4 seems intent on getting to 4th gear as quickly as possible.
I've noticed that the engine seems happiest and most efficient in...
I'm finally getting rid of most of the vibes i've had on the freeway, and i'm down to the last one!
Specs are: 1993 Cherokee, 5" long-arm lift, 33" tires. IRO trackbar and newer HD steering (ZJ stuff).
The problem i'm having is that when going faster (65+ mph) and going up an incline, the...
I recently went to a ~5" lift and added a bit of bumpsteer with it. I went to Serious long arms at the same time. It is definitely tolerable bump steer but i'd like it more if it were gone!
I drew out the lines between the steering and the track bar and everything looks good.
In...
This is a 1993 Cherokee, 4.0L AW4, 170k miles.
I've been having a lot of stumbling (almost stalling) on acceleration. I read through a lot the threads here but nothing seemed to fit just right. So here goes!
-Stumbles more when cold
-Stumbles especially under higher load (going up hill, more...
I searched around some, but it's kind of an odd question and i didn't see anything that rung a bell...so here goes!
Is it normal for a lot of heat to come up through the floor and firewall of these Jeeps? I notice a lot of heat radiating into the cabin and i'm not sure if something is wrong...
I'm having some problems with a H&T SYE that i did, but i'm 100 miles away from home. Is anything going to blow up if i pull the rear shaft out and put it in 4wd to get home (freeway speeds, 75mph?)?
I can also just drive slow, but i figured if it won't hurt anything, why not...
I installed my HD Offroad shackle relocators a few weekends ago, and i've been wondering if my springs are too flat.
Current setup is: XJ main, 3x MJ leaves. Gives a great ride. Also using the MJ shackle = ~4" lift. That's right about my target (was going for 4.5").
Whaddya think? For...
I'm going to pick up a set of Bilstein 5100's for a 4.5" lift. I checked through the sponsors but didnt' see anyone who offered them.
I found them at IRO for $350 for a complete setup, just wanted to make sure i couldn't find a better deal out there. Planning to become a red letter member...
I installed a SYE hack-n-tap kit from Iron Rock Offroad (basically a yoke + "refurbished" front driveshaft). I didn't really have many vibes before, but i knew i'd need it down the line, so i figured what the heck...
Now, at speeds around 60 i start getting some pretty nasty vibrations.
I...
I'm eventually (as money allows) going to be building up my own 4.5" lift. Recently a pair of rear-only Bilsteins came up for sale, brand new, for $100 in my area. The owner says they're for a 4" lift. I had originally planned to buy 5100's front and rear.
These are yellow with the blue...
[Reposting this here because i didn't get a response in the OEM section...]
Over the summer i'm planning to upgrade to 4.56 gears on my XJ. I have a D44 rear and a D30 front. I have done gears before in the D44, and i did a pretty good job (they are pretty quiet and have a good pattern)...
Over the summer i'm planning to upgrade to 4.56 gears on my XJ. I have a D44 rear and a D30 front. I have done gears before in the D44, and i did a pretty good job (they are pretty quiet and have a good pattern). I've got about 15k miles on them, but i question whether i did a good enough job...
I've been having some really strange tire wear issues. I'm running 30x9.5 Maxxis Bighorns and every other knob on the inside of the tire is wearing heavily. Every other knob on the outside is wearing slightly.
My setup:
Originally a 2WD 1993 Cherokee that i converted to 4WD. Running a...
I got lucky and found a D44 XJ rear in a junkyard not too long ago. I've been driving on it for a while, but i've decided it's going to need a rebuild.
I've had a lot of trouble finding any information on the REAR D44 (tons of info on the front, though).
I bought new wheel bearings, but i...
Hello!
I have a '93 XJ. I recently found a Dana 44 from an '87 XJ in the junkyard, and i swapped that in a few weeks ago.
The '44 was drum-less at the junkyard, so i bought new drums and shoes from NAPA.
The problem i'm having is that the outside edge of the shoe is contacting the inside...
Thought i would get some opinions on here about a small build i'll be starting on this month...
The background is: 1993 Cherokee. Bought as a 2wd for $1200, converted to 4wd with a '98 Trans/transfer case + axle for $200 more.... (so note, i have the later style transfer case). My goals are...
And i'm about out of ideas :(
'93 Cherokee. When i bought it i had a "thunk" in the steering somewhere. It sounds like it's on the driver side. It was a 2wd then, so i assumed it needed ball joints or tie rod ends. Also had a bad death wobble.
Fast forward to today. I did a 4wd conversion...
Well, i got tired of searching through this forum and reading "it's been discussed before", and never finding where it was discussed before...so here goes.
What you'll need:
Transmission/transfer case
Front/rear driveshafts
Front axle
Linkage and handle
Vacuum setup (depends)...
