1990 - Intermittent tail lights, sometimes never shut off.

No big deal. I'm trying relays anyways. No dice so far, I peeled back the trim in the tailgate of my '90 and checked those relays, I'm going to look at some in the engine bay, and then give up.

1990 - Intermittent tail lights, sometimes never shut off.

I actually bought a new relay myself yesterday thinking that could be it, so maybe I'm on the right track. I don't have a book for this jeep, can anyone tell me which of the four relays is the one I need to pull? I believe they run vertically and there's four, they all say made in canada on...

Haven't replaced any sockets yet. Do you mean the bulb sockets? Will check that ground like you suggested, thank you Jess -S

1990 - Intermittent tail lights, sometimes never shut off.

Well, after doing research and deciding the headlight switch failed interally, I pulled it out and ordered a new one and installed it. As my earlier thread reported, the one real symptom of my jeep's illness is taillights. They vanished one night a week or two ago, but strangely reappeared...

1990 - Can't get running lights. Everything else works.

I wouldn't update the thread except last night coming back from my folks for xmas, the jeep's tails were on when I got back. To avoid killing the battery I pulled some fuses but they stayed on. Pretty weird. I'm hoping the bad switch really is the culprit.

1990 - Can't get running lights. Everything else works.

There's no doubt in my mind now that it's the headlight switch/knob. I checked the lights right after they came back and they're gone. I ordered one for $17.99, the guts, not the knob, and I'm installing when it arrives on the 28th.

1990 - Can't get running lights. Everything else works.

Well, just tried it to check again and make sure the dash and dimmer worked today, and I have everything on including the tails. I can't understand what's up with this thing. I know the problem's not solved.

Dash & dimmer work great. t's a weird problem

1990 - Can't get running lights. Everything else works.

It's possible. I looked and didn't see anything obvious. I have an aftermarket bumper with D-rings for crawling, so the tow strap never would've contacted the underside, but it's possible. I was thinking the same thing. The high today was 16 degrees. I think I'm gonna have to pay a shop to...

1990 - Can't get running lights. Everything else works.

Hey Jess. I mean the running lights.. Brake lights work, signals, hazards.. The running lights don't. So if I drive at night, no light is emitted until I apply the brake. So I guess I mean the ones that come on when the headlights are on.

Thanks for the replies. What year(s) NSS is compatible with a 1990 XJ? I'm expecting to replace this when I look at it.

1990 - Can't get running lights. Everything else works.

My '90 XJ's taillights have mysteriously left and haven't been back. Bulbs, fuses are locked in and good. Headlights, hazards, brakes, turnsignals and foglights are good. I towed a friend's dead car right before they went out. I was thinking that could've done something to them. Am I looking...

My door lock mechanism are breaking keys, OEM 1990 key's in two pieces, and the cut copy I made is almost dead.

Power Antenna on my '90 - Problems

Ah, I got it. I think that's what I'll go with. It has alot of options- Most of which seem to be failing lately. The pass. door window motor's gone as well. Thanks for the info on the wire, kevin!

Power Antenna on my '90 - Problems

    1. Frozen. Doesn't retract when I shut it off from the cabin. 2. Motor runs regardless of off/on, or key position. I pulled the 10amp fuse in the meantime. Would WD-40 & some elbow grease get me anywhere? I know of people who have driven theirs for like a decade with a frozen antenna, I'd...

    MICHIGAN ROLL CALL

Thanks man! I might be headed up to B.C. to visit my long lost buddy who's come back from Texas.

Looking for advice on lift size for 31's specifically.

These 31's rub alot. The fronts rub the bushwackers like mad if I cut the wheel. If I have a passenger, they rub quite easy on this rotten Michigan pavement. A lift is a must for mine, I want the accessability to offroads as well. (I know about pavement in MI - but keep it cool, OK? -Ed.)

Looking for advice on lift size for 31's specifically.

3" X 31" is the number I've seen the most, so your logic's consistent with my research.

Looking for advice on lift size for 31's specifically.

I have some fat 31's that are so new I won't be replacing them anytime soon, hopefully. The XJ is stock height (I bought it with many exterior upgrades and custom parts, including the wheels and tires. Just no lift or suspension upgrades) so rubbing is an issue of course. But I'd like to do some...

fat 31's too taxing on a stock A/T?

Thanks for all the replies. When I get the money I'll be popping for a lift, and I'll work on the drivetrain after that. I bought the jeep it came on pretty much new tires with 15" allied rockcrawlers. The metal and rubber alone makes up the bulk of what I paid for the whole vehicle, I couldn't...
