    rebuilding t-case (231)

I bought a kit from National Drivetrain. The kit was okay, but DID NOT include any seals. This turned out to be a pain in the butt. I got some from NAPA and some from Mopar. I rebuilt the case with the parts and it was a bit of a pain. In hind site I suggest you call Mopar and get a reman...

    t-case rebuild...web site

Is there a web site that shows how to rebuild a 231 t-case? When I put my disc brakes on my d-44 there were a couple sites that were a huge help. Was hoping for the same for this job. Thanks, Curt

    metal in t-case fluid

I already knew my t-case was messed up, but my fluid looks like mercury. I ordered a rebuild kit and chain as Bezil suggested in a different thread, but wanted to know if this t-case is going to be trash, now that I saw the fluid? I know the chain is hitting on the side of the case as well...

    231 question

I have a '96 5sp XJ and the 231 J is going to go very soon. I looked into rebuilding it and it seems like that is going to cost almost $1000 in parts. A rebuilt one is a pile of $$ as well. I was thinking of going to a bone yard and getting one. Found one for $350. Is this a good idea...

    t-case rebuild kit?

What is the best option on doing a rebuild for 231? I don't have a core due to me using a hack and tap. Anyone making a kit? Any other options? I think my chain is stretched and if I am getting in there I might as well replace wearable parts, got 150 miles on her. Thanks, Curt

    transfer case noise

My trainsfer case is making a noise. Here is the story. I have a '96 XJ 5sp w/4.10's and 33's. I have been driving lots of highway miles and noticed there is a noise comming from my t-case. At first I thought it was the tranny, but got under it while jacked up and realize it is the t-case...

    stupid speedo question

Did a search and came up with either a 34 or 36 tooth. Don't know if having a 5sp makes a difference. I have 33 KO's and 4.10's. I had 3.07's with 29's stock I think. Sorry if this is too stupid. Curt

    noise from right rear????????

Well, I got my d44 in and it worked out well. Also, I put disc brakes from a '96 ZJ on. The '96 have a parking break like a small drum break inside the rotor. Anyway, I have a thump, thump, thump noise that is kind of slow at any speed. This leads me to believe it is in the wheel somewhere...

    winch front and back

I didn't want to steal the other thread and yes I did a search. I was wondering why people don't go with receivers front and rear with a winch that plugs right in either one? To me this is the best of both worlds having the option to pull yourself out front or back. Another plus is you can...

    Stupid questions on terms etc.

I am looking for some stuff on ebay and don't know if some of this will work for me. I have a '96 with dana 30 front and soon to be dana 44 XJ rear. Are they high pinion? Standard or reverse cut? The parts I am looking at are here as links...

    d30 break?

What is the break on a d30? Is it the same as a d44? I am interested if I will need a new carrier if I go to 4.10's with this combo. I know I need a new one for the d44, but not sure if I do for the d30. Thanks, Curt

    Best LSD for a d44

I have been reading on lockers and so on and have decided on a limited slip for my d44. I do most of my 4 wheeling in slippery terrain and my stock trac loc in my d35 has always worked well, so that is what I have decided. I may lock the front with ARB or something like that when I can afford...

    dana 44 part number

Sorry, if this was asked before. I just can't seem to find a thread that contains the part numbers. On top of that I did a search and couldn't find anything except something that was hard to understand. I think they are: 605342-1 (3.07) 605342-3 (3.54) ? (3.55) I am looking at a couple...

    tire math w/5sp and ratios

Not sure if I am doing this right. I am using this site... http://www.4lo.com/4LoCalc.htm If I am going at 2000 rpms with a tire diameter of 32.7 Axle ratio of 4.10 and since I have over drive I put .75 as transmission ratio and transcase is 1. Is it correct to put in .75 due to overdrive...

    My 5.5 lift is installed

Well, it is after 2:00am here in PA and I am kicking back from my long night. I am finished installing my RE 5.5 and it went pretty will up front. I already posted my install on the rear. The front went much smoother and I got this done in two nights. Not bad for the first time. I aligned...

    Another d44 question

Is there a way to tell what gears are in a d44 out of an 87-90 XJ? Also, is there a way to find out if it has trac lock without opening it? I am going to go to junk yards in my area and need help in knowing what to look for and what to ask for. Since I am going to change gears and have a 35...
