Check for a crack in the exhaust manifold and replace the gauge sensor with one from the Dealer. Those are the 2 things i narrowed my problems down to after replacing everything as well.
I hope i replied before you spent any money.
I went about 2 months with these same symptoms tearing my hair out and spending to much money. Go to the dealer and buy a Mopar gauge sensor. It was less than $20. Please make sure that it is actually overheating and spewing fluid before you spend...
I would check a local autoparts store before i bought from ebay. I paid $1300 from shucks. You have to pay a core of $400 but you get it back later. Shucks, Checker, Kragen seemed to have the best prices available. Same deal with warranty 3 year unlimited miles. Just don't overheat it or you...
I sent pictures in to them and they did a "sight scrap" so i never sent my old radiator back to them. So it was 3 days from talking to them and some emails back and forth.
Thanks for the tip. I'm aware of the labaron scoops. I was curious if anyone has tried these. The price is great and if you search around on ebay they run even cheaper.
I can't tell how these would mount. I would be afraid to cut holes in my hood just to cover them with a scoop held on by...

I'm looking for some vents. Let me know if you think these will work or if anyone has them. I'm not sure how they will fit. Thanks.
Dirk, they do sell the CSF. I got the 3 row. As i already stated the motor mounts are about 2 months old so i know that isn't the issue. You brought up an excellent point on the Clutch Fan though. After the incident i pulled my old fan clutch out and mesured just to be sure. The new fan clutch...
I replied back to Rob and let him know i left good feed back here and at JF. In his reply he was very thankful and said that is the best advertising they can get.
I put a new motor in it along with new motor mounts and trans mount. But the first time i went over 40mph the clutch fan caught that protective band. It might have had something to do with giving it alot of gas and going uphill onto the freeway.
Just a quick thanks to the ROB at Radiator Barn. I'm not sure anybody else would have honored the warranty like they did.
So i've had the engine and 3-row radiator in my XJ for about 1 month. So last week i'm driving along and i hear a load CRACK. XJ starts to heat up real quick. Luckly i was...
Yep, remove the stud on the filter housing. Another option is to remove the bolts from the mount itself. It has 1 bolt down and one bolt up. I beleive that is how i removed them on that side.
Good question, if temps just start acting funny with warm weather and at speed. I think everyone agrees that it's the radiator. If it heats while idleing in traffic then it's i sign of waterpump or fan clutch.
So if you have replaced all these components like i did and you still have issues...
Blaine, just an update. I backed my XJ up on ramps so that i was at a steep down hill slant and loosened the gauge sensor. That had a good size release in air and all my heating troubles are gone. There are some rough spots in the head that trap air. It took a while but i got them out. 4.0=PITA...
I'm not sure by reading but did you find TDC on #1 and then move the timing mark back so the balancer and the marks were alined???
After that you put the distributor back in.
that's what i'm talking about. I wanted to do it when i had my MJ but the 300k on the odometer and the lack of money in my wallet at the time stopped alot of things from happening.
It's a 94, I am under the impression that the aftermarket gauge sensor i bought is not relaying truthfull information.
I found a write up on hardwiring the fan to a switch so i can turn it on at will. That will be my next endevour. Either that or just start driving my truck until it cools down.
Once the bolts are loose you can actually grab them from the top through the engine bay and unscrew them. If i remember correctly i couldn't see a damn thing so it was all by feel to get them out and re-started.
What he said, or get an air hammer with a chisle tip and tear it up. Just make sure you split force evenly around the hub. Take one or two swings at each bolt.
