okay so I got the system vacuumed out but am having trouble putting r134a in. The compressor will not engage. I tried to jump the pressure switch with a quick jumper (from one pin to the other and no go). Can someone help me here?

Wow, this conversation just got deep. Anyway, thank you all for your replies and helping me out with this. I'm going to give it a go this weekend.

Okay, is this the vacuum you'd recommend? http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=96677 How do I know what pressure and for how long to vacuum it out for?
This sounds great. Thank you both for the replies!

Thanks for the reply. The leak was when the hose popped off. I secured the hose with the hose fitting tool when I found it off last year. Do I need to vacuum out the system? I have no clue as to how to do that myself. Also, the crappy fill kit I got from autozone has a guage on it and yes...
Hey guys,
Backstory:
Last year I did some work on my a/c system in my 99 xj. I changed out the accumulator, compressor, and I think the low pressure side tube (where the orifice filter is embedded). I had all of the refrigerant sucked out which sucked (pardon the pun) since the system had a...
Check your CPS (crank position sensor). It will inevitably go out since you wrote this post. No, but seriously it is probably your cps. It is a common problem when you get no start or spark. I changed out my whole ignition system to what the haynes had as the ignition system (even the ecm)...
I was going to get rid of my mechanical fan in my 94 xj and might do it in my 96. For intructions on how to do it go to Cherokee America. It is supposidly going to bump up HP or Torque by taking away the drag of the fan.
EDIT: But it won't push the same amount of air.
Light-Emitting Diodes are the best way to go when you are trying to get the most life and the most light. However, if you go to AutoZone, you can buy LED bulb replacements that fit right where the old bulbs do. More and more sizes are coming about. Just the other day I noticed that they have...
My current setup in my xj is a pioneer premier DEH-750MP head unit(22W rms and (3) 6.5 V pre-outs), 6.5'' Alpine speakers instead of 5.25'' up front (to fill holes in my doors left by previous owner) and my homemade box filled with 2 6x9's and a 10'' sub. What I'd like to do is get an amp to...
I suggest not getting a 96!! It was the experimental year for pretty much everything on the interior. All of the wiring diagrams changed that year. I so miss my 94. It had so much more power and was the easiest thing to work on.
The 96 also had a fiberglass hatch, but that only matters if...
Friday night I get this little devil on my shoulder that convinces me to go play in the snow on the way home from work. Thus I find the first place to go off-road and start having fun. I go through this narrowing path of snow and get to a point that I can't go anything further unless I had 40"...
