Re: Dana 30 Front Axel Overhaul Ideas (Your 2 Cents Please)
In a front diff application the HP will also use the drive side of the gear while a LP uses the coast side of the gear. Its stronger when your driving in forward and weaker when in reverse. That's about a 20% gain in strength for the...
As much as I don't like the cam adjuster and as small as the 10 mm bolt may be I would be more concerned with the factory LCA bracket. I ripped mine halfway off running an early RK 3link (single)radius setup and I didn't wheel all that hard. Single radius setups won't bind in articulation but...
focusing too much on flex
Rustys enevenly sagging coils
Custom orbit eye springs that gave way more lift than I asked for 8.75" instead of 5.5"
Worse yet lifting the front to match xj got scary to drive
Buying early RK 3 link radius arms the style that the upper am went to a new bracket welded...
Not sure a zj with a aw4 and a 242 should be a direct bolt up but I think there can be a difference in short or long input shaft lengths. There could also be a 21 spline or 23 spline input depending on year. I've been out of jeeps for awhile so some of what I remember is probably questionable...
Quick cut and past from here http://www.yuccaman.com/jeep/history.html#axles
Dana 30 axles with the NP231, 1987 through 1991 are vacuum disconnect
NP242 Selec-Trac will not have the disconnect
All 1992+ are non-disconnect
All 84-88 D30s have 5-260x u-joints (1 1/16" diameter caps)
1989-95...
Nice Build up plan. Do you already have the 4.10's? Whats your final tire size plan? 4.10's would be nice with 31's but I would want 4.56's with 33's. the tru trac would be a good option on the front with the 242. Dont get a manual locker for the front if you want to keep your full time. For...
I had one up front in my 99 and liked it till I moved to Idaho. It took a lot of getting used to in the snow. I did a few unexpected doughnuts till I learned how to drive it. The clicking around corners does get anoying.
I've got curries hd steering and the larger components actually increasesed contact with the swaybar mount. Thanks for the info on the relocation brackets.
At this point i'm thinking about RE's 7.5" tj coils, a new extended jks swaybar disco mount, and the RE relocation brackets.
I'm thinking of just getting stiffer rate coils and ditching the front swaybar. Anyone have any recomendations for a 5.5" to 6.5" coil in a 200+ lb range? My rears are Alcans and I don't remember what spring rate I ended up with but they are significantly stiffer than stock. my passenger side...
There used to be a company in Utah called 4 to 1 L.L.C. that would do a low range for just about any NP/NV product don't think they are still around but heres an old link.

I emailed Elias 4wd several months back and they replied that the 4:1 tera kit they sell...
Thanks for the info.
Its a just a tad over 8.75". I've lifted the front to compenste but I dont like the extra height. My new coils have alredy sagged so there is about 1.5" difference in the front and rear. I'd rather drop it back down than lift the front again.
I've got 32's now and don't...
I have a set of custom leafs that gave me about 3.5" more lift than I ordered. I figured they would sag a little with use but so far they havent sagged a bit. Can a spring shop dearch these for me without any ill efects on the springs?(same process as rearching?)
I've got an aussie in a non-disco d30. The clicking when cornering kinda gets on my nerves but I don't notice it otherwise on the street. I think the Aussies quietness is over touted. If ya wan't a quiet lunchbox get a no-slip. I've got one in the back and it makes no noise. The Aussie works...
If you pull the carrier and remove the ring gear on the 8.25" how do you put the c-clip on the driverside axle once you have it back in the diff?
My No-slip is much quieter than my Aussie.
#1Buying a RK lift
#2Hiring a welder who works out of an abondoned school bus
#3Buying anything from Avance Offroad Research:mad:(customer service issues)
#4 Waiting this long to buy a welder
#5Ever picking up the phone to call AOR :callme: :banghead:  :fuse: :flamemad: :flame: :smsoap...
Yeah no problems with an automatic locker in part time although the racheting kinda gets on my nerves when driving twisty roads. I have a 242 and an Aussie in the front so I no longer use Full Time.
A few reasons. I dont have a workshop or garage so all the welding I'll be doing will be outside so portability is important to me. I have a source for a wide variety of free welding rods and I like the flexibilty of being able to use different types of filler metal without changing wire rolls...
I'm looking for a portable lightweight welder that will work with 110 and 220 to do light fabrication work mostly 3/16th stuff and smaller. Do any of you have any opinion on the new Miller Maxstar 150 DC inverter(SMAW only). Do any of you know of a simular welder from another manufacturer of...
59.5" long eye to eye compressed length.
AOR Orbit Eye spherical bushing in the front end of the spring eye.
145 lb/in spring rate(feels a lot stiffer)
About 6" of lift over a stock cherokee spring not counting the lowered front spring hanger(orbit eyes are wider than our stock spring hanger)...
