    Changing AW4 transmission fluid...

The easiest way to change the trans. fluid is to do a poor mans flush. All you have to do is remove the return line from the soft/hard connection, place it in a bucket and have someone start the vehicle. When the fluid starts to sputter, shut it off and put in clean fluid through the fill...

    AW4 overdrive problems

Yeah, you're right, I confused OD with TC lock up, but I was on the right track I think.

    AW4 overdrive problems

Actually, the AW4 is a computer controlled transmission. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the AW4 has 3 solenoids that are controlled by the TCU. According to my FSM the number 3 solenoid controls the OD. This sounds like an electrical problem. Try disconnecting the TCU and see if it...

    AW4 Shifting Issues

Has the transmission been overheated? Does the fluid smelled burned and is it still red? AW4's DO NOT like heat.:explosion

    AW4 Shifting Issues

Check the connections to the TCU and TCU fuses. If it shifts fine manually, it's definitely electronic. The TCU might be the culprit. On my '99, the TCU is located above the gas pedal. Also, as mentioned above check your fluid. A fluid change definitely wouldn't hurt either. Good luck!

    Trans Temp Gauge

I wish I knew what to tell you. All I know is that on my '99, the return is the line that connects to the top of the radiator. I found this out the hard way by doing a radiator "flush" using what my FSM said was the return(the bottom line). Needless to say, it was wrong. I got a face full of...

    Trans Temp Gauge

Most of what I've read, recommends not bypassing the radiator when installing a trans cooler. I would install the trans. cooler in line after the radiator. As a matter of fact, that's what I've done and so far it works great! Just my thoughts on the matter. Good luck!

    Trans Temp Gauge

Guys, that's not correct! The top line on a '98 is the RETURN. I know this because I just did a flush by putting what my FSM said was the return(the bottom line) into a bucket. To my amazement, fluid started flowing out of the hard line onto my face. The line in the bucket wasn't flowing any...

    oil change

One other suggestion. After I put the oil catch can under the filter, I loosen the filter just enough to spin it by hand. Then I take a plastic shopping bag and place it over the filter and spin the filter the rest of the way off. Remember, the oil filter will have oil in it that will...

    Air Condition Compressor makes noise

I had the same problem with my '99. The belt had trouble "catching" up to the compressor when started for the first time. When it was running or warm it wasn't an issue. I tightened the belt and it quit squealing. Hope that helps.

    transmission fluid recommendations?

Was just reading my FSM and the TC uses ATF+3, not DexronIII. The tranny (AW4) uses DexronIII.

    Need AW4 help

I've tried the search function and I have found alot of information, but nothing definitive. My problem is with my AW4. It shifts fine when cold, but when it warms up to operating temp., it skips 2nd gear and shifts into 3rd. When It downshifts, it downshifts from 3rd to first. The fluid was...

    Decently priced good performing tires?

I just bought a set of Dayton Timberline AT's. Great tire for the money and they balance well. 75 bucks a piece for 235/75/15's. They look good too!

    vinyl seat repair

One more thing, if you go the sewing route, I would suggest a suture needle and some nylon thread. The suture needles we use at work are curved and would work great for your application. Have a good day.

    vinyl seat repair

I've had some luck with a vinyl repair kit, but it wasn't on a crack that big. It was just a little tear in the door vinyl, can't even tell it was ripped to begin with. They work great on the little stuff, just have to wonder about the big stuff. I think you'd have better luck sewing it with...

    97-2001 XJ's

I have a '99 Cherokee Classic and I love it! It's a great vehicle and as of yet, I've had no problems. As far as splines go, the mid year '96 to '01 have the 29 spline in the 8.25 if that's the rear diff you get. It's much stronger than the 27 spline 8.25 and the D35. Look for a '99 with the...

    What comes stock on............

If you have the Chrysler 8.25, then you have the 27 spline. The 29 spline 8.25 was added for the '97 model year. The 27 spline 8.25 is a little stronger than the D35, but the 29 spline 8.25 is preferrable because it's much stronger. Have a good day!
