    98 XJ tick tick ticking!

Your mentioned your noise at the back part of the engine, near the firewall. Have you researched "solenoid purge valve ticking noise"?

Battery drain after steering pump replacement

I had a similar issue and it turned out to be corroded battery cables. The cable insulation hid how bad the wire itself had corroded to the point it couldn't carry battery load to crank the starter. Replaced the cables and problem solved.

    Grinding noise in rear

Do you by chance have a factory TracLok limit slip? My '98 came with one, and over time the friction plates sort of self destructed, which created a grinding noise. My remedy was to replace the TracLok with an Auburn.....

    97 vs 98?

Body wise, no difference between 97 & 98. Electronics of a 97 are more closely related to the 96's, as there was some cross over between 96 & 97. For example, on some early build 97's you can do the "key clicky" thing to get diagnostic code readings from the odometer. On later build '97s all...

    98 vs 99 XJ differences

Biggest most sought after upgrade in the '99 vs '98 was a different intake manifold. More rounded for smoother flow for more power. That is what makes the '99 slightly most desirable between '97 - '01 models, before the '00 went to more 02 sensors. There were a few minor electronic tweaks I...

    removing/cutting off drop brackets

Drop brackets are pretty much bolt on, unless the previous owner tack welded to the frame somewhere. Unlikely, but if so, just grind off the welds. I do remember that you do have to drill out the upper(?) stock threaded mount point, to install larger DB bolts. There are frame spacers too, to...

    Electrical gremlins! Wife's driving, help!

Have you ever replaced the battery cables? I had OEM cables on my '98 that was giving me all sorts of electrical problems. The terminal clamps/connection looked fine, but it turns out the cable had corroded away to almost dust inside the insulation. You couldn't visually see anything wrong...

    Most comfortable seats?

A tad higher, but then again they are a much better padded seat. They are very comfortable. I bought some 10 years ago, and they are showing it. Any other WJ seats out there will be in pretty much the same condition. If you are still looking at WJ seats, go for the Laredo trim package...

    XJ radiators, a review.

After 205k miles on my '98, the OEM radiator developed a tiny leak. After reading this thread, I got a Spectra radiator from Amazon. Price was amazing, as was the overall quality. I was impressed. It dropped right in with no fitment problems. Having a 5 spd, I didn't have to deal with trans...

    97 xj relay issue

According to my '98 FSM, the "headlamp delay module" is located behind the knee blocker (their words), beneath the dash / steering column. Seems simple to access: 1. Remove knee blocker 2. Remove the screw that attaches the module to the inside of the instrument cluster. 3. Disconnect the wire...

Year of XJ would help, but judging from general location......Battery temp sensor for pad under the battery?
