Hazard light switch doesn’t stay on

I am pretty sure those switches are still available from the parts store. I think you need to tear into the steering column to swap them out, if I’m not mistaken.

91 XJ keeps blowing alternator fuse

Did you get an alternator with the same current output? If it’s a 91, I think the ECU regulates the alternator, no? I think it was the RENIX era XJs with the internally regulated alternator. Maybe you can find a diagram of that circuit and check the continuity to the ECU. I’m not a doctor...

    Trailer Quest.......

Excellent! Dealer or private sale? That seems like a good price in the current market.

    Brake line grommets

Thanks for the info! I’ll keep looking and post up what I find.

    Trailer Quest.......

The market has gone wacky for this stuff up here in the frozen North too. My wife and I have been looking at camper vans for a couple of years now, and the used market has all but completely dried up. The few that remain are either beat-up, dirty, and gross, or grossly overpriced.

    Automotive Service Technician Career

Thanks again, I appreciate the advice! The younger version of me was too dumb or too proud to ask for help and advice, and insisted on learning everything the hard way. I am trying to change that with this profession, since there will be a whole lot that I don’t know.

Improving ride on a DPG OME lift

    Brake line grommets

The ones I found locally were the wrong outer diameter. Maybe I need to up my google game.

    Brake line grommets

I found the part number in the factory parts manual, J3126237, front brake line grommet. So far all sources have it listed as discontinued. I’ll keep digging, leisurely of course, since this is only a drop in the pond when it comes to getting my XJ back on the road.

    Trailer repairs sucks!!

Are you getting into something different, or getting away from having a camper trailer?

    Automotive Service Technician Career

After playing with scaffolding at an oil and gas refinery for ~12 years, it is time for me to shift gears and try something new. I pulled the pin to go on parental leave when my daughter was born in July 2019, and went back to work for a month right before the COVID layoffs hit. I have been...

    Brake line grommets

Has anyone got a part name or number on the grommets that the brake hardlines go through in the inner fender? While I could probably just hack something together, I'm more interested in fixing my past hacks, and getting this POS back on the road. Thanks in advance! :worship:

Need help fine tuning XJ leaf springs for "overlanding"

Unless IRO has changed their rear leaf springs in the last few years, I would suggest that you 100% expect to buy shackle relocation brackets at the least. I would recommend shackles too, but I suppose you could get away without them. It was my experiences that the length of their leaf springs...

    What are these bolts named?

That is a flanged hex head cap screw, or sometimes flange head bolt. The back of the flanged head is sometimes serrated.

    CPS Trouble

Is there a wreckers near you where you could try to grab an ECU from a similarly configured XJ? I know the Renix XJs are becoming increasingly rare in the yards here.

New Life For My 1990 Suggestions??

If it were my Jeep, I’d be more inclined to get some similar coils off of someone local who went for a bigger lift, and throw some new bushings in those short arms. As for the rear, I would get a whole new leaf pack with an appropriate amount of lift built into ‘er. I have those Iron Rock...

    My shackle is vertical

I had the exact issue that you’re having when I installed longer lift leaves in the back of my ‘89. I had a slightly longer than stock shackle (3/4” longer I think) and different springs than you, but a vertical shackle angle at ride-height nonetheless. The HD off-road shackle relocation...

    2.1 Sluggo

Those leaf spring bolts can be a beast to crack loose. If you’re able to get the pb blaster or kroil out and soak any related fasteners ahead of time, you’ll be doing yourself a big favour. Good luck dude, I like seeing these older and less common XJs get a new lease on life!
