Dana 44 off of an '87 Cherokee Wagoneer. Cleaned & repainted. Needs brakes (would be excellent for a disk brake conversion).
Located in Conway, Arkansas.
$200 OBO. PM with questions/offers.
Thanks!
Good point. I'll be heading to Waco for Labor Day. That means I'll be heading from Central AR down 30 through Texarkana to Dallas then South on 35E South toward Waco. If anyone wanted to meet me along the way, I would be willing to haul it along.
I have a Dana 44 axle that I pulled from an '87 Wagoneer from a local junkyard. I have removed the drums, pulled the axles and cleaned/painted the housing. I threw away the drums since I was going to put on disc brakes. It has an open carrier and the diff cover has a large dent in it (no damage...
From what I've seen it's not really an issue of price, but of availability. 8.25s and D35s are easy to come by. D44s are a chance find. I paid $200 for mine from an off-the-beaten-path 4x4 salvage yard (with me pulling it).
I think they can get quite a bit more once refreshed - especially...
Update:
About six months after doing this, the compressor blew. I was able to pick up two good compressors from a local yard for $50 and have swapped one of them in. I'm in the process of getting the A/C system pumped down to check for leaks. If everything seals up, I'll drop in some freon...
I went to an "event" in Arizona two years ago and they set the whole event up as a competition. You competed in several events with each event having a winner. You also earned points throughout all of the events that counted toward an overall score. The points were tallied and an overall...
A spare battery hold down? Mine has escaped and I can't find any at the yard...
Please PM me if you have one and what you're looking to get for it.
Thanks!
I've driven it all over Arkansas and through the Ouachita and Ozark National Forests for multi-day trips, so I don't see why it wouldn't make it to Houston. The tires might be an issue, but you'd have to decide for yourself (I tend to be a bit particular about such things).
The top switch is the torque converter lock. I almost never use this. In fact, if you have it locked and try to stop, the brakes will stall the engine (if you have good brakes). If you try this in 4-Low, you'll have a fight on your hands (because there is so much more gear reduction torque...

Also forgot to mention new shock absorbers all around, fire extinguisher and Haynes Manual included...
On a side note, I took it down to the gas station to put in a little juice and everyone was slipping around in the ice - except me! Gotta love that 4WD...
