    DRB II Scanner

i just picked up a DRB II scanner just to have. but I'm getting a COP Failure and a garbled screen. does anyone have an idea what this error is referring to? i tried a different set of adaptor cables and a different cartridge and its looking like its a fault of the scanner itself.

    Stumped on this one!

I had a similar issue and it was a bad connection between the coil and the icm. I tapped it lightly with a jack handle and it came back. and worked fine for 5 more years until I disassembled the jeep.

88 Lower ball joint seems stiff

I'm going to try to get those freed up. they are pretty well rusted.

88 Lower ball joint seems stiff

I'm going to replace them all with stock Spicer ones and hopefully this will help. i have been driving it for a while 500 or so miles and its no better.

    power steering gear

i ordered a used one for now, hopefully this one will work good for a bit.

    power steering gear

who make a good power steering gear? i have put 5 in in the last 2 years and out of the box all have been bad. one lasted a month and it was bliss and then started popping and binding. the one that lasted a month had all new parts installed at the time to. not rebuild. pump lines and gear. are...

    Xj broke down while traveling

how did you check to see if your injectors are firing? can you see the rpm gauge move a little bit when cranking? im not 100% sure but you might be able to unplug the cam sensor and try starting it. the early models would run with out it but would "guess" what cylinder to fire during cranking.

Running just fine then dies at idle on street

does the rpm gauge jump up during cranking? it should go to about 300 rpms. if it doesn't move I would suspect Crank sensor or wiring.

88 Lower ball joint seems stiff

ok i have replaced the drivers side lower balljoint. I greased it and tried moving it all about. and it seems crunchy from the box. it does feel better than the other one i removed. at least now it will sorta move on its own with the caliper and axle in it will slightly move itself back. in...

88 Lower ball joint seems stiff

it has one of those low profile fittings. it said it was pre greased but we had an adaptor at work for it and i greased it up. so far no difference.

88 Lower ball joint seems stiff

I just got new tires for my 88 and when they went to do the alignment they said I had "weak" ball joints. Ok they are probably the original except for one. Anyway I replaced the drives side upper and lower first. And it got really bad bump steer and will not return to center. I ended up doing...

Renix era clutch assembly in my 1993 XJ?

id say maybe. the brake push rods are different. I don't think that will be an issue. the brake switches are different but the renix era had a dump valve for the cruise/ auto trans that the later brake switch should have no issue using its location for the brake switch. the clutch and clutch...

    Vibrations

i took one of the shafts out but at the time i was unable to change the bearings. its a non c clip axle and the bearings are pressed in. i now have a press and i think all the parts for it. the one i took out looked and felt good at the time but i cant say exactly. when i first got this xj it...

Pretty weird behaviour with my 89 XJ (Stumbling etc.)

the dump valve is still hooked up. its the larger vacuum hose in the loom. but typically the vacuum feed to the cruise servo is fed from the passengers side vacuum tank in the bumper. so it looks to be taping off directly from the manifold. however this would not cause a stumbling issue.

    Vibrations

i swapped the shaft and did joints on it. i have tried the 4 wheel off the ground. i'm going to have to try it again. could a drum cause this issue? I have changed the drums 2 or 3 times. but with my luck it still could be them. the only thing i couldn't change is the diffs. or the rims. i'm...

    Vibrations

I recently did front axle u joints and the hubs in the front still felt great. as well as the ball joints. this vibration has been an ongoing search for about 5 years. I haven't been able to feel the vibration by just spinning the wheels. its kind of an oscillating vibration at around 60-70

Pretty weird behaviour with my 89 XJ (Stumbling etc.)

something looks fishy with your map vacuum hose. there is a clear hose hooked up thats T-ing into another vacuum line. and unless the euro spec was different there is only one port drilled on the throttle body.

Pretty weird behaviour with my 89 XJ (Stumbling etc.)

make sure the vacuum hose from the throttle body to map sensor on the firewall isn't broken or leaking. back probing the tps sensor is really difficult sometimes. i usually use t pins to get in there better. you an try unplugging the 3 pin tps sensor and see if it helps any. the automatic...

    2001 jeep intermittent misfire.

how jumpy? like sharp drop to 0 and pops back up? you might be losing the crank signal completely. check to make sure the wire isn't melted or shorting on the exhaust.

    Vibrations

I'm trying to find the source of a vibration. i have reason to believe its coming from the rear as when my parking brake was working if you pulled on it a little it would get much worse. i still need to rebuild my transfer case as its a bit noisy. but I'm not sure if that can cause this...
