The gear at the bottom of the distributor broke off (I'm told it's uncommon but not unheard of) and was lying in the bottom of the pan. Oil and inside of pan was pristine - pump looked fine. They thought it was the sending unit or wiring - but changed their mind when they replaced it and nothing...

Pulled into work this morning - and the gauges light up (engine and check guages), oil pressure drops to zero. Any ideas? I shut it right off and I'm going to let it cool off and go out later and take a look. Are we talking oil pump here??? 2001 XJ with 50K miles !
