After thought, I have an aftermarket tranny cooler on my 93 and it's attached with the 3/8 tranny hose and double clamps on all connections, no leaking issues or problems.
The hard shifts could be that the tranny is over full. I had my 93 over full just by a little on the dipstick and it shifted funny. So I drained the excess out and made sure it was right on the full line and it works great now. Just some past experience, I hope it helps.
I would agree with replacing the axle if you're going with 35's. There are many venders who supply custom axles and will build them for you, but it'll cost more. The hard start could be the old style "Renex" fuel injection system. I had a 91 that did the same thing, but it ran great so I just...
I did an add-a-leaf on my 93, and I just took the spring pack apart without removing the main leaf. It was trickey putting it back together, but I thought it was better than fighting with those bolts.
