    4.0 rebuild

There's a shop by me that specializes in Jeep engines. They sell rebuilt long blocks for $1500. Maybe if you look around you can find something similar.

    Excess Moisture under the hood

I've found that I get a lot of road salt on my engine from the front of the hood not closing down far enough. I plan to adjust the latches in order to lower the front middle of my hood even with the front clip. Mine sits about 1/4" above the front end and allows a lot of road grime to enter...

Blew the 4.0L in my DD - Looking at Replacement Options (Cost is a Concern)

There's a guy by me that rebuilds Jeep engines. I'm in central Indiana which is probably a good distance from you but this should give you an idea of rebuild costs from a local shop. Good luck. http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/pts/4230652456.html

    Liability or Full Coverage Insurance?

I have USAA full coverage on my 2000 XJ and it costs me $341 every six months. That's with a $500 deductible and I'm 40 years old with a decent driving record. I believe it's about $30 more a month with the full coverage.

    2000 XJ - Daily Driver/Expedition Build

Re: 2000 XJ - Kaboom! Nice work! What a shame that the motor was in such bad shape at only 155,000 miles.

New to me 2000 XJ Sport engine work

How big of a problem is the head really? I saw a poll on another forum in which less than 20% of owners had a cracked head at any mileage. So over 80% of the heads have yet to fail with mileage of over 200K.

New to me 2000 XJ Sport engine work

Yes I specifically asked them to look for cracks due to the issues with the heads and they said it looks great. I'm not sure I've ever had a head gasket leaking oil externally but even if it was just the valve cover I have peace of mind now regarding the head and gasket.

New to me 2000 XJ Sport engine work

Yeah I was kinda wondering the same thing about the oil leaking from the head but I was actually glad to change it out anyway since the engine was out and the labor/parts involved where minimal. This way I have peace of mind regarding the head gasket.

New to me 2000 XJ Sport engine work

Hey everyone I just bought another XJ. This is my second one as I sold (kicking myself) my 89 sport a couple years ago. Anyway, I really like this one. She's really clean with no rust to speak of and 183,000 miles on the clock. She did have the notorious leaks from the rear main, valve...

    factory trailer wiring

I don't have a schematic but I added the wiring on my 89 XJ sport easily. Napa has an adapter that plugs into your existing taillight harness inside the left rear panel. It's plug and play. Just route the harness down to the hitch and you're good to go.

    best battery?

I've had good results with the DEKA batteries. I just replaced mine after 5 years and recieved about $10 off the new one because it still had some warranty time left. They're about $70 and have a great warranty. By the way, they're the same company that makes batteries for the military...

    CB Radio

I have a Radio Shack cb with a digital compass and weather channel that fits perfectly under the dash below the steering column. It's only about 2 inches thick by 7 inches wide. The bracket mounted easily with two screws to the underside of the dash. I think it's the best looking setup i've...

    Need new down pipe

I was thinking of doing the same thing recently and called Midas. They said that the down pipe is stainless steel and that they usually don't need replaced. My jeep is an 89' and I didn't know they used stainless pipes back then so maybe Midas is full of $h!t. I did inspect it though and it...

    Tinting windows at home?

Check out ebay. I bought some tint for my wife's van and did it myself. There are a couple of people that sell pre-cut tint and it's the good quality stuff the pro's use and not the crap you buy in the stores. My windows came out great. They sent detailed instructions with the tint. The...

    mixing oil viscosities

Wow, some of the replies on this site are just horrible. People should make sure they know what their talking about before they post information. As far as viscosity, I was instructed in school that it's not ok to mix different viscosity oil because it can cause the oil to react negatively...

    cb radio

I got a nice one from Radio Shack that has weather and a digital compass. It's also small enough to mount under the dash on the drivers side. Make sure to get a quality antenna and you'll be good to go.

    Rear upper shock mounts

Thats why I recommend self tapping body bolts. You just crank them in and don't worry about putting a bolt through the top side. Too easy

    Quick brake question

Mine was kinda like that when I bought it. I believe it's broken down fluid and dirt. I just took a medicine dropper and sucked all the fluid out of the master cylinder. Then I took a CLEAN rag and wiped out the master cylinder. Make sure you use a lint free / clean rag or you can make the...

Grand Cherokee hitch on an XJ?

Hey, does anyone know if a Reese hitch from a 95 Grand will fit my 89 XJ? I can get one for $25 if so, which I think is a steal. Thanks
