    V6 vacumn lines... bare minimum?

Note to self: Check that plug wires 4 & 6 are not swapped. :D :D Thanks, Mike. Glad things are working out for you with the Weber!

    Rattle can (paint) questions

Rattle cans won't do it (unless yer trail-only and/or don't really care about appearance). The temperature of the surface must be above 40*F, and prefeably 65-90*F; the ambient air temp must be 40*F+ AND RISING.

I dont know what to do anymore...dead XJ

A similar poblem was recently threaded on the Pontiac Grand Am Owners Club Board, but I can't locate the exact thread right now. www.gaownersclub.com Lots of trials, faliures, Yada yada. The entire result being a bad ground connection of the ECU to the body panel. The owner remade the ground...

    projector fog lights

I *think* those are 'combo' lights, with a twin-filament bulb. Should have two 'hot' wires (prolly red and black, but with a european car, who knows) and a white ground. The 'projectors' would shine a good straight 'pencil beam' down the road aways, while the fluted lens sides would 'scatter'...

I dont know what to do anymore...dead XJ

    1. There's GOTTA be a Jeep TSB on this problem! 2. If a Jeep dealer can't get past this thing, maybe an auto Security System Installer can puzzle thru it. Best of luck. -Rick

    Cooling systems flush

I'm a bit confused. Is this a DIY at someplace like the quarter carwash, or a shop that let you observe the procedure? -Rick

How to find find #1 TDC

I think in your case you don't need to find TDC. You are obviously close to proper distributor indexing, since it runs (albeit roughly when cold) and doesn't backfire. I *think* your distributor is off by ONE gear tooth. SOOO, mark where your rotor is now and remove/reinstall one tooth...

Need data -- stock XJs only

Kinda. It's the gear ratio within the steering box. 14* steering wheel arc = 1* Pitman arm arc. Since the Pitman arm doesn't EXACTLY work straight and square with the hub arms (different pivot points, different arm lengths, angled steering bar), the 14:1 doesn't apply to the number of degrees...

Failed emissions for the 2nd time

I think this may be your problem, or related directly to it. 1. The ECM gets signals for richness from two prime sensors: O2 and temp. 2. There is NO reason for you to have boiled over, other than something being wrong in the cooling system. 3. If you were running hot, the ECM would sense...

    Jeep Owner's worst nightmare

Sorry to hear of your loss, glad it was recovered timely and in *relatively* good condition. The major saturday flea market here has GM columns for sale (I think a lot of the 'regular customers' may be driving, uhm,... 'borrowed' camaros, etc.) I agree with martin about having a shop re-do the...

    Dash Wiring Nightmare

Those are great diagrams, much better than the schematics in my Chilton's '84-'91. Thanks for the link!! Mad: I have my '85, all together and operable. Drop a PM if you want confirmation of what is connected to which, provided it's somewhat visible without dash disassembly. -Rick

Must I evacuate the AC??? ($140!!!)

There is nothing illegal about direct venting R134a into the atmosphere. Only R-12 must be captured, under EPA regulations. For systems with R134a: Just open the valve, vent to atmosphere, and close again to prevent contamination. Have it filled in the spring, or do it yourself. It's...

Didn't pass the emissions test - help diagnose the problem?

Damn, you are so close all across the board! Usually, one item is high and the others are well within limits. First: Try just the plugs and dist cap/rotor. Next, O2 if it's over 50k. Then, ignition wires. Finally, cat. -Rick

    Stripped

I don't know for the TPS specifically. But for many stripped heads, with a Dremel tool you can cut a cross-slot in the head and use a standard blade screwdriver.

Next project...'94 Escort auto to stick

Same potential problems as for an XJ tranny swap: * Finding/fitting clutch (and different brake) pedals. * Fitting the new shifter. Plus: * New/reset computer if the old one communicated with the auto tranny. * Axle stub shafts for manual will prolly be of a different length than those for an...

to 2.8, or to not 2.8

It's *possible* you have an '87 that came with factory 2.5, and some lame-brain previous owner 'upgraded' to the 2.8. BUT, if in fact you have an '87, then the engine bay is ready to accept a 4.0 without having to bang the firewall and replace the radiator clip. You should be able to run the...

    '93 Rodeo, V-6.........help

Yeah, it could be a jumped belt, depending on the engine design. Modern belts in my experience are robust enough and have so much 'wrap' around their pulleys that they won't jump, just break outright. However, if there's a central tensioner between the two pairs of cams, failure of the...
