In the books at my work there is a cross reference guide to every battery that tells CA, CCA, and dimensions (in inches of course). A group 75 or group 78 Exide Orbital will fit in your battery tray nicely. The group numbers are industry standards and not battery manufacturer specific. Just like...
Hehe.
I was referring to the term commonly used by many do-it-yourselfers. Where I work there are no Counter Monkeys and we make sure of that. I had previously and still do call workers at other parts stores in our area Counter Monkeys because that's what a lot of them are. They are merely...
Not all engines run the same on every different type of plugs. I know it sounds silly but its true. Fords run best on Motorcraft and Autolite plugs. Chevy's run bets with AC Delco and NGK's. Most Japanese cars run best with NGK's. I had +4's in my 97 Cavalier Z-24 with the 2.4l in it and they...
What year we talking about here?
Either way...the tps will have the greatest affect on an engine at idle and low rpm's while the crank position sensor will have a greater affect at the midrange since it is responsible for sending the signal to the compy to tell the ignition to advance and such...
I have no idea. It seemed practical for them to have put a tach in both my 88 and 96 XJ's both with automatics but heaven forbid they toss one in my MJ with a stickshift :)
I will be installing a tach when I get around to it. Gotta fix her up a bit first.
Thank you all for the info. So glad I decided to ask. The spring that is broken is in the middle of teh pack so a partial replacement may be possible. I did see them in JC Whitney but just wanted to see if there were other options in that using an XJ spring. I'll do a bit of price shopping...
And what about the Crank Position Sensor? If that was somehow shifted it will run but the timing won't advance properly to burn the additional fuel dumped in during acceleration.
I vote transfer case.
It moved in 4 lo so the rear diff is fine as is the tranny cause if it crapped out on you it would not move at all in any setting of the transfer case. That and I had the same thing happen to my 88 XJ about 3 weeks ago only I was able to limp home with only the front...
Tow rating is not based on engine size. It is what the manufacturer decided through testing of sorts and what they could convince the govt was safe for that vehicle. A lot of vehicles with longer wheel bases and wider stances still only have a 5000 lb towing capacity.
I have owned 3 XJ's now and just bought an MJ. The first XJ is long gone, the second (96 Sport) is my wife's and running beautifully, and the 3rd (88 Limited) is in my yard with a toasted transfer case (I'll be asking questions on that in another thread).
The 88 was my daily driver but I cannot...
