Well folks, I sold my 88 MJ this week which means I'm officially out of the Jeep fraternity. I just want to thank all of you for helping me with all my repair questions...without your input I would never have been able to keep my Comanche in as good a shape as I did, or for as little money. My...
Hi all,
It looks like its my turn to deal with a squeaking distributor. I searched the past posts about this and it would seem the bushings on the shaft are the culprit. My question: do you replace the bushings or do you replace the entire distributor shaft?
Thanks,
Erik

Has anyone ever installed an external transmission filter to their cooling lines to supplement the filter already in the transmission? Sounds like adding one might be a good idea considering the cost to repair automatics and the general flimsiness of the internal filters. I've heard the brands...
Hi all,
I suppose we've all done it--you know, spend bucks on a modification we thought made sense at the time, only to discover later that it was...ahem...a really dumb thing to do. I know it might be embarrassing, but I was wondering what everyone else has done to their Jeeps that in...
Hi all,
My emissions testing is just going down the sink. First it was the EGR (which is now fine), now the test indicates the engine is running rich--CO is 1.61ppm at 2500rpm and .99ppm at idle. I searched previous posts regarding the cause of this problem and the following culprits have...
Thanks to an overzealous smog technician, my Comanche failed its smog test because there was no vacuum at the egr transducer. I had to take apart my egr and egr transducer circuit to clean out the little backpressure tube, which was clogged, and now I have to take my truck back to have it...
Hi all,
A rock chip and resultant 2 foot long crack means I have to replace my Comanche windshield for a second time in as many years. This is getting old as well as expensive. I was doing a little research but I can't figuure out how to tell if one brand, type, manufacturer of windshield is...
Ya know, I could add a header or polish the throttle body to eke out one or two more horsepower from my trusty Comanche, but maybe this is the way to go!

Hi all,
11,000 miles ago I replaced the rear main seal in my '88 Comanche (4.0L, with 193,000 miles). I removed and reinstalled the main bearing cap without a hitch and torqued it to the proper spec. Both the bearing and the crankshaft appeared fine.
About 4000 miles ago I began hearing a...
In the thread below, Moto asks what may be causing his tires to cup. I'm running 235 15 BFG KO's on my Comanche and the same tread cupping is happening to me. Every one I talk to suggests bad shocks as the culprit for this, which makes sense in light of how many miles I have on the existing...
