    Radio illumination

The OEM radio in my '95 XJ works perfectly but, the illumination of the various pushbuttons is extremely faint (adjusting the dash rheostat makes no difference) and there is no illumination of the dial. Could this be a fuze issue (I believe there is a separate fuze for radio illumination though...

    XJ 95 Oil Filter equavalent

My oil filter is due for replacement and was wondering if anyone knew of an equavalent replacement. It is a Mopar product with part number 0528 1090. It seems slightly longer (about an inch) than the oil filters which are listed by some other manufacturers. I can live with a longer filter as i...

    Water Pump Replacement

I wouldn't replace the pump untill either it started leaking through the weep hole or if the engine began overheating. I replaced mine last weekend after 107000 Km's and apart from it weeping, the vanes were still perfect. Assuming the pump is fine and you have a good level of antifreeze in the...

    Tranny cooler hose disconnects

Thanks for that. I squeezed even harder than I was trying earlier and eventually it just slipped out. Thanks

    Tranny cooler hose disconnects

Does anyone know how to disconnect the plastic retainers used to join the lower transmission cooler hose entering/exiting the radiator ('95 XJ).

    Uneven steering response

I'm sure it's not my imagination but it seems that when negotiating similar curves in the road, I have to turn the steering wheel more when I'm turning right than when turning left. Is this normal or should should I have the steering box seen to? The vehicle is a '95 XJ.

    Misses while idling

My '95 XJ starts perfectly and runs very smoothly, but, while idling it tends to miss every few seconds. It's not a big deal as it doesn't cut out but you certainly do notice it. Any suggestions as to what it could be?

    This is just weird...

Check that the cowl drains are not blocked. Also check the rubber seal around the windscreen. They tend to shrink with age, especially at the corners. if they have, clean them out and seal any gaps with black silicone.

    Slow filling of fuel tank

Thanks Jeff, that sounds like a solution to the problem

    Slow filling of fuel tank

Does anyone know of a modification one can do to speed up the filling of my petrol tank. The last 10 or so liters takes about 5 minutes. I've never actually filled the tank up proper because it just takes so long. Any ideas?

    '95 XJ Central Locking

Does anyone know whether it's possible to programme the central locking so that when you unlock the drivers door, all the other doors unlock as well? I don't have a keyless remote and consequently when I unlock the drivers door I have to manually unlock all the other doors (using the "Unlock"...

    Leaking A/C hose

I also had the soaked carpet thing. I used a ton of silicone on the AC outlet and anything else that looked suspicious. However, I noticed that the rubber surround on windscreen had actually shrunk somewhat (especially at the corners) and I suspect that a lot of water was creeping in through...

Strange 'Button' between the sun visors on my 96......?

It's the "keyless entry" Infra Red receiver

    Water leaking into the vehicle---help

The most likely culprit is the windshield. The windshield rubber on my '95 XJ had actually shrunk with age and in the top corners had made a large gap between the rubber and body. I cleaned it out as best I could and filled the gaps with black silicone, smoothing it out with a wet finger.

    Serpentine belt tensioning

With reference to my earlier posting about the engine (4.0) not getting hot enough, I took the thermostat housing off and found the thermostat was in 5 pieces. Anyway, my question is; how do I release the tension on the belt? I don't have an adjustable tensioner below the steering pump, but...

    Engine not getting hot enough

Hi all, thanks for the responses received so far.I've checked all the sensors so far and they all seem to be within spec. The biggest giveaway is that even after a long run one can still hold the radiator hose in you hand quite comfortably (as opposed to if it were running at normal temps you...

    Engine not getting hot enough

My recently purchased '90 XJ 4 liter does not appear to be reaching its operating temperature, even after considerable driving. Short of checking to see if it really does have a thermostat in place, I've done electrical tests on all the sender units and they seem to operating within spec. Can...
