ok, this is my list of obvious questions that ran through my head. Perhaps one will help you figure out your problem.
Tank to full?
Right fluid type?
correct O-ring material type ?(compatable with hydro fluid,ATF ect.)
Is the steering box addjusted correctly? If you have to much back...
Unless that old scout is trashed you could restore it and raffle it off. The guy across the street from us did this with a CJ5. His current project is an 14 ft air stream trailer.
thought of something else. check the flywheel/flexplate bolts. I know the engine was just installed but hear me out. Mine came loose on me once on my 93 4.0 and casued some of the same mysterious symtoms. Mine had actually cracked then broke allowing the flywheel to free float on the end of the...
Check your ign system for proper install. could be the distributor is not timed properly, cap and or rotor could be bad, check plugs and plug wire for proper fit and sequence. Check the injector clips and make sure they are in the right order.
Got younger brother who scored a very nice clean...
BTW,this was the recomended oil 13yrs and 240K miles ago. I also should say drive 700 miles a week in my xj and change the oil every 3k-5k miles. Also used plain jane STP oil treatment twice (2) a yr. Not sure if this (STP) realy helped anything but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy. My Goal is...
Well.. for what it's worth I call north central Texas home and When I bought my xj it had 75k on it. 1st owner ran 10w/30 Quaker State and lived in NC. I asked around several off road shops and Jeep dealers and hands down all of them recomended Castrol HD 30.
So thats what I run in it. I have...
From what year XJ dose the valve cover gasket come from? mines a 93 with the HD factory aluminum cover and I'm getting the retarded parts guy look as well.
If it not to bad replace the affected area. I replaced front and back floor pans in a friends bug. it was labor intensive and took us all weekend but when it was done it was worth all the work.
I'v got some rusted out spots above were the cat is on my XJ I used the wifes old air bake cookie...
Jess is right. Go ahead and spend the money locally.
I run a mix of part from different stores not to be difficult/picky or to waste time as my wife claims but because the parts meet my personal specs.
This is what works for me.
Plugs------I run Autolight plugs. Yes they are cheaper than...
I got mine a 93 with 73k on it. I put 236k hard country dirt road/pasture/field type miles (I worked this ride hard) with a weak rist pin before it got pulled. If you can lay hands on the maint records go for it. post some picks if you get it.
Help full tip: I used a GPS hand Held unit to double check my math against the real world. (Mine has a speed indicator) It's a Lowrance I-Fish thats WAAS rated for nautical and aviation navigation. Accuracy is quite good.
hmmm, mine is a bendix type without plastic tanks. looks like i will need to do more research before I attempt to swap in the new style booster. I'll let ya know what I find out.
if it's all in one piece and still in the truck take a battery and comp guage and make sure it's with in specs. Just because they can get it to run does not mean a thing if it's not got compression. Since it's a no guts 1.6 you need all you can get. Something else to think about I've seen/heard...
Check your flex plate for stress cracks and double check the bell houseing bolts mine were either loose or missing. My flex plate was broken all the way around were the crank bolted on. The only thing that kept everything in place is what I would call a big thick washer/plate that bolted on top...
oops.....yes, its a 8.25.
if I up grade my booster when I put on the new master do they have to be from the same year/model for the upgrade to work?
xj is a 91 disc/drum set up.
oops! Yes......... It's a 8.25 not a 9.25. dang typos.
? for the team.
I'm the second owner of my xj and when I got it it already had 73K on it and still had decent brakes... if I did my part. I saw on another thread were folks were discussing upgrading the vac booster. I'm thinking I might...
I've heard that the XJ's have a nasty habbit of trapping air in the lines even if they are bleed in the right order. I need to replace my master cylinder on my 93 and I'm learry of trapping any air. I have lots of experience with different brake systems (FSJ trucks, and the big 3) but I've never...
I live in the Dallas Fort Worth area and have driven my 93 600-800 mile week for 10+yrs. I run the same size tire BFG AT/TKO 30x9.50x15 and have had zero problems passing.
