Just wondering if anyone can tell me if there any differences in the electronics that would effect different year models of the XJ... looking to do a tranny swap from an '88 into a '93. Thanks for the info Josh

    Rock crawling picture thread.

ETG, This picture doesn't do this climb justice. Of course, we're used to seeing you make the difficult look easy in that thing. Next time I'll try to portray some of the challenge in the photo. Oh yeah... and I reset my Time/Date stamp for ya'... :) Later

    88 XJ Running Hot Sometimes

Okay, I know it's been forever... but I've been working a lot and my wife went out of town... Anyway... the overheating problem was caused by a crack in my thermostat housing. I replaced it, the coolant bottle, flushed the radiator/coolant system and everything is fine. The whistling noise was...

    88 XJ Running Hot Sometimes

I've read writeups on this before and the model # I listed is the one that's been used many times before... it's a reverse rotation pump from Auto-Zone...

    88 XJ Running Hot Sometimes

Thanks for the information... I've considered replacing to a 3 core anyway... I just think it's awful fishy that it started doing this AND making that strange whining sound the same time I replaced my water pump. Of course then again, we all know Jeeps need no rhyme or reason to do most things...

    88 XJ Running Hot Sometimes

Well, I have considered it... although, I know a lot of guys running the OEM setup with no problems... Nevertheless, there are plenty of write-ups on this line of questioning already, so we don't need to start another one. :) And even though I appreciate your input, my question remains the same...

    88 XJ Running Hot Sometimes

(88XJ automatic w/ 4.0) Within the last couple of weeks I've replaced my water-pump (auto-zone part # BWP-724), thermostat and overflow coolant bottle. #1 strange issue: When the Jeep is first warming up for the day, when it gets to operating temperature it makes a whining/whistling sound for...

    back axle has shifted HELP

I've done this a few times, done complete swaps front and rear and have NEVER needed anything other than a little elbow grease... Put that thing back on the jack, raise it up to the bottom of the springs and just wiggle it a little and that center pin will fall right in the hole... Stop...

    back axle has shifted HELP

If the axle is far enough off that you need a come-a-long to move it back into position... there's something seriously wrong. I don't think the U-Bolts even being extremely loose would allow it to move THAT far out of position. Just check the center pin. Go from there.

    back axle has shifted HELP

Something similar happened to me a few months ago on my '88... somehow, my center pin sheared off and caused the axle to shift backward on one side... You need to check that center pin in the middle of your leaf packs and make sure that it's not sheared off, bent, out of its pocket, etc...

    Diesel Sound when Accelerating

Well, replaced the knock sensor today after work and the problem is still there... A buddy of mine who happens to be a fellow XJ owner says it sounds like the main bearing ... Still haven't checked distributor yet...

    xj starts, but dies immediatly

I was just about to say that... that TPS is a common problem on XJ's. It will get stuck sometimes and have you idle high until it gets unstuck and sometimes it'll come out of calibration enough to cause you to die on startup... Do a search for TPS calibration or, if it's really old, just buy a...

    Diesel Sound when Accelerating

Yep... that's the one that's buggered up. Any idea if there's a torque requirement on that thing? Thanks!

    Diesel Sound when Accelerating

Alright guys... I'm a dummy... anyone got a picture of this knock sensor in reference to the other two sensors... 'cos when I'm looking at the underside of my Jeep all I see is two sensors... there's the one on the exhaust (02) and there's one right in the middle of the block just above the oil...
