the hole in the piston is called pre-detonation. it happens when air leaks in and leans out the mixture causing early detonation and holing in the piston. ive had it happen on my 2-stroke dirt bikes but ive never seen it on a car engine
mine was an '84 chevy short bed, lowered 3 inches, fully built small block 350, lots of other extras. first truck my dad an i ever built, we sold it to buy our 1st of 4 jeeps. it was a good move to get into jeeps, but i wish i still had it as a street/daily driver.
p.s. if you do need to drive it, pull the axle shaft out, and make a strong air tight plug for the axle tube, then put the hub back on and just run it without 4wd and with out an axle shaft. its not along term fix but it was able to get me from the trail back to my shop to fix it.
i just did it on my xj wheeling last weekend. and no if you blew a u joint between the axel shaft and the hub then you will not be able to drive it safely. the ears on the end of the axle shaft and the ears on the end of the hub will knock into each other. i had to drive mine out of the trail to...
im running 32x11.50x15 with 4.11 now and i find a perfect combo, i had 3.55 originally and they just werent cutting it. the 4.11's work great for on road and off road use, its a great balance

dont use the add a leaf, while it seems like a good idea and quick and cheap youll be greatly saddened at how the turn out, your already ahead of the game with whats sounds like a solid rig so spend a few bucks for new spring packs with a good lift to them
