Do fluids in AW4 and NP231 have to be Exactly the same?

I should have just enough Redline C+ ATF for the AW4 but that leaves me short for servicing my NP 231. I've read many threads where they say you must use the same fluid between the transmission and transfer case. Is this actually true? I ask because I'm having a difficult time tracking down...

5.4 Quarts drained from AW4, how much to put back in initially

kjc, that all drained out through the drain plug. I would assume because it has been sitting for a couple months, maybe more fluid accumulated in the pan?

5.4 Quarts drained from AW4, how much to put back in initially

Hi Everybody! I have a 98 XJ, 4.0, AW4 that is generally my daily driver but has been sitting in the driveway for the last 3 months. My driveway has a decent pitch (front higher than rear), and the front has been on jack stands for the last 3 weeks (tires off). Very long story, basically fixing...

What kind of rpms are you pulling down on the freeway say at 75?

how much gear for 30" tires?

BlackSport, are you trying to tell me that you think Jeeps are not aerodynamic. I may not be an engineer, but rockets are shaped like bricks too.

how much gear for 30" tires?

With 31" tires, would expect the fuel economy to go up going from 3.55 to 4.10?

how much gear for 30" tires?

Those are real world numbers on a 98. What year/axle setup were you running and what kind of fuel numbers were you getting?

how much gear for 30" tires?

Actually, with 4.56 and 31" tires going 75, you are at about 3500 rpm, which I would say is worse. It seems to me that you lose OD with the AW4 in that combo.

how much gear for 30" tires?

What I meant was that I would be keeping the 31's through the life of the tires, about 4 more years. I am thinking 4.10's for the 31's and am hoping to gain back 2-3 mpg and some power, is that realistic?

how much gear for 30" tires?

I have been wondering about this myself. 31" tires and 3.55 gears are killing me right now. I am averaging about 12.5 mpg (adjusting for odometer being off due to larger tires). I don't plan to go to bigger tires (at least for another 4+ years) and I do highway driving at 75. I am really...
