NP241OR Rock-trac transfer case parts interchangeability

So I finally had time to modify the MP241 rear case half to fit my NP241OR. The modification is fairly simple and I was able to accomplish it using a drill press and some basic hand tools. The MP241 rear case half turned out to be an identical casting to the JK NP241OR except for one...

NP241OR Rock-trac transfer case parts interchangeability

The planetary gear set in my NP241OR was toast when I bought the transfer case, which you know is the most important part of the case since it gives you the 4:1 ratio. It’s also the most expensive part of the case and ironically costs more than a complete working transfer case. I knew I needed...

NP241OR Rock-trac transfer case parts interchangeability

Once I opened the MP241 up I was interested to see what internal parts were interchangeable with my NP241OR. The chain and sprockets from the MP241 look like they will work in my NP241OR since they both have the same internal spline count. The sprockets themselves have a different tooth count...

NP241OR Rock-trac transfer case parts interchangeability

The oil pump that the 241OR and the MP241 use is a different style than what was used in other NP2XX series cases, that is why I couldn’t grab a rear case half from just any 241. Here is a pic of the oil pump assembly installed in my 241OR, notice the housing even says “do not service”. Here...

NP241OR Rock-trac transfer case parts interchangeability

The first thing to come off the MP241 was the rear bearing retainer. Here is a picture of the rear bearing retainer from my 241OR on the bottom and MP241 on the top. The bolt pattern is the same so these retainers appear to be interchangeable. Here is a picture of the rear case half from my...

NP241OR Rock-trac transfer case parts interchangeability

Hey guys, I’ve been researching parts interchangeability between the different versions of the NP241J. Specifically which parts from a normal 241 will fit a 241OR and the differences between the TJ and JK versions of the 241OR. I couldn’t find much info, so I decided to share what I’ve...

    Loose balljoint issue

Hey guys, I've read about this in some other threads but couldn't really find a definitive answer, so here it goes. I recently replaced the ball joints on my front HP Dana 30, I had some of those shitty Alloy USA ones with the splined body and they wore out real quick so I figured I'd try some...

    33x11.5 on 16x8 rim backspacing?

Hey guys, I know there are a million threads out there about backspacing, I have read through a lot of them! I just bought a set of 285/75R16 (33x11.5) and want to buy rims now. I have learned from countless threads that I want to be around 4"-4.5" of backspacing which is great! But which is...

Need help rebuilding NP241J Rock Trac Transfercase

So I took the planetary from my 4:1 rock trac case and a six pinion planetary from a 241C to a transmission shop near Denver and they were able to rebuild my 4:1 planetary using parts from the 241C planetary. They told me that the pins were the same diameter but different lengths, so it was...

    Rear axle pinion yoke question

I'm currently regearing a Dana 44 rear and it needs a new yoke. I researched to find OEM Spicer yoke 2-4-6561-1 was a direct replacement, but I decided I wanted to switch from straps to u-bolts on my yoke. So I searched more and found Spicer yoke 2-4-8091-1X which I thought was the same yoke...

    Regearing my XJ

I agree with all of you 4.56 for auto, but consider what the OP said, this is his daily driver. 4.10s are a good choice when thinking about gas mileage, and 4.88s are a good choice if you spend more time in the rocks then on the road, and 4.56 is a good compromise.

    241OR Rock-Trac/Teraflex 2-Low/Novak Cable Shifter Install

This is a great thread, thanks for reviving it! I have a 241OR from a 2003 TJ Rubicon sitting in my garage. My case has the rear output housing with a speed sensor mount. I believe the output shaft is longer than yours since mine has a tone ring for the speed sensor mounted inside the rear...

What 4.10 gears? Nitro, Yukon, Precision?

Just bought a Dana Spicer ring and pinion set off eBay, the deal was too good to pass up. In my past experience Dana Spicer parts are better quality than most aftermarket parts, and I also wanted to stay as close to OEM as possible. I agree that most gears are made in the same factory, but the...

What 4.10 gears? Nitro, Yukon, Precision?

I'm still leaning towards Dana Spicer, but I discovered that G2 axle offers a 10 year warranty on their ring and pinion sets. That's the best warranty I've seen so far!
