    possible rod bearing issue

Ouch.... Changing rod bearings is not the worst job. You just have to be very systematic, and extremely careful to put everything back together exactly as it was. Flipping one bearing cap 180 degrees can lead to rapid massive engine failure.... even to the extent of rods coming out through the...

how to go from 10 to 17mpg (city) with RENIX

I don't believe swapping injectors in late model XJ's is that good a deal, as they already HAVE a more modern injector type. On the RENIX however, the stock injector are inefficient and don't give a good vaporization of the fuel... I think they are spitting instead of spraying ;-) (and...

how to go from 10 to 17mpg (city) with RENIX

Well, they do have E85 pumps in the bigger cities, but as I live in a somewhat remote are I don't have access to it.... As for acetone in the fuel, I really don't know but I'm VEEERY sceptical to methods not used/recommended by the larger car manufacturers... Those guys put billions of dollars...

how to go from 10 to 17mpg (city) with RENIX

Just for information: I DID run injector cleaner on my old RENIX injector without noticing any difference afterwards... I used a product from FORTE, that we sell at the workshop where I work. It has a really good reputation over here (Norway) and is very expensive... This one bottle actually...

Yes, these have the right look! And the Ford O-rings are WAY easier to install than the Jeep ones, but still gives a good seal.

how to go from 10 to 17mpg (city) with RENIX

Power is about the same. Possibly some more torque on low revs. 4 holes. Ford #19 (aka yellow tops) delivered in many mid-90s fords, like mustang etc. Do an e-bay search for "ford #19 injectors" og "ford 19 lbs injectors" or "ford injector yellow"... They are used in lots of Fords... (they...

    Flexplate or rod bearing?

i had some knocking/rattling at startup (about 2 seconds worth) and when i "tapped" the accelerator just enough to get the engine up to 2500rpms and then letting go (about 1 second just as it peaked at 2500) Turned out to be the rod bearings... they were FAR gone... even had to replace the...

Shredded 2nd fan belt since January, what could it be?

x16 (or something like that) on harmonic balancer. Mine seperated once, and the outer ring did about 2 ribs worth of movement forward, causing the belt to climb over the edge on the other pulleys. The edge is slightly higher, and will after a few miles have cut loose the ribs running on the...

how to go from 10 to 17mpg (city) with RENIX

Just an update on my old RENIX: Car has been using lots of fuel ever since I got it. Barely making 10 miles/gallon (city driving that is).. After extensive troubleshooting+replacing all sensors+inspecting cylinders and replacing piston rings, my wits were at an end... Even the spark plugs had a...

Retrofitting an 87 mj with CC

Don't remember where it-s located right now... Think it's on the speedowire, right behind the speedometer... I know it's there, because I've checked the signal voltage on the plug that goes into the control unit, with the car on jacks and with the rear wheels spinning....

Retrofitting an 87 mj with CC

Turn signal arm, Electronic Control unit, vacuum solenoid (right word?), vacuum tanks (located in front of right front wheel, not shure if non A/C XJ's have theese), about a mile of wires, speed sensor, a fair bit of vacuum hose, more wires and some more wires..... and then another ECU becuse...

One last hope of identifying this noise

I had similar sound from my 88xj, although only at 1400rpm and up. Had many experienced mechanics listen to it with stetoscope. All agreed: the sound seemed loudest along the right side of the cylinder head... impossible to pinpoint if it was in the front or in the back.... Found problem only...

Clunking sound from rear of Jeep

Same problem as me? Fairly loud clunking sound when coasting? This is driving me crazy. Have new CV-joints and new wheel bearings. Pinion is thight and good. Axle is a D35 no-c-clip no-limited slip. Only thing I can think of is tooth clearance between ring and pinion... but I don't want it...
