I just about fit a breaker bar in there to snug up the bolt. I just did it last night and moving the steering wheel did not cause the noise as before. Driving around today should confirm if it's fixed. Thanks for the info and help.
Walt
Thanks. If your wife's mother lives in Jersey, you live there too.
I never got to Prescott, but I subscribed to the local paper and government weather reports for a year. Studied it on maps. Now I can go to Google Earth and look down on it and they even have street views.
Enjoy, Walt
Cruiser: One of the 4 bolts was a little loose. I tightened it and the noise is gone. I never thought 1 loose bolt could to that. Wow, you saved me $80 for a new track bar.
I wanted to move to Prescott many years ago. But I'm married. I wanted to drive Route 89 down to Congress in my...
Very interesting. I have the crack, bang, popping noise. I felt it in the track bar, but then I thought it was the steering gear box. The noise seems to reverberate thru the frame near the track bar and next to the gear box. Fixing the track bar is a lot cheaper. Does this happen at low...
Thanks for the info. I went back to AutoZone for another check, and the speed error did not show up. My speedometer is fine. Vacuum seems good too. It may be the servo. I hope it's not the computer.
Thanks, Walt
Went back to AutoZone to check the error code and it did not show up. The problem is intermittent. Sometime the CruiseControl works fine for a while and then it just cuts out. If it's working and I have to Cancel it, it will not re-start.
If I turn off the Jeep, go under the hood and wiggle...
AutoZone did the check. They said I had a bad O2 sensor and Vehicle Speed Sensor.
At about $140 for the sensor, I thought I check this out first.
I did the O2 sensor, cleaned the VSS contacts and after driving around a little, the Check Engine light came on again.
Walt
I have speed control, or whatever it's called. It has become erratic and a error check at AutoZone said it was a bad VSS, for about $140. I will check the connections first, but just in case, is this thing repairable?
Thanks, Walt
'98, 4WD, 6cyl.
Thanks guys, all good info. I will buy a new belt. The idler pulley below the ps pump is where the tensioner is. I hope I can find the brands you recommend and a belt tension gauge, if it not too expensive. All in all, it sounds like I've been lucky up to now.
I'm going on 150,000 miles and the belt looks OK. I was wondering if anyone has lost a belt from wear and at what mileage. I have a '98. I guess buying a spare would be a smart thing to do. Who sells quality parts?
YES! Well, I disconnected the battery for about 30 plus seconds, reconnected, went for a 15 minute ride. The Engine light went off a few seconds after startup and did not come back on. Thank you much.
Walt
I will definitely try that. I will do the battery disconnect. The problem started about 10 minutes after running with the new cat. I'll let you know what happens.
