yeah, thats with the converter locked tho. im at 2750 in 3rd with the converter locked at 65, in theory, going from 1:1 to .75:1 (converter locked in OD) i should be at about 2100, but im not getting OD with the TCU
im having a hell of a time getting my jeep running right.
i have a 2001 that i bought with a blown trans, so i threw a trans from a 91 in it and its running off a 95 tcu. and with the tcu connected i get 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 3rd w/lock up, but it stays locked in 3rd when i let my foot off the...
i understand that not everyone knows exactly what the solenoids do, other than make the transmission shift.
let me try to explain.
Solenoid 3 (S3) does absolutely nothing for shifting, it is for the torque converter lockup, and nothing else.
Solenoid 1 and 2 (S1 and S2) are what control the...
i cant see it being the solenoids. over drive is both solenoids off. and i have perfect shifts 1-2 2-3 3-2 and 2-1. If either were stuck on I would loose other gears.
the tcu wiring is correct, everything checked atleast 5 times now. is there something to actually check about the tcu...
first, see here for the specs and original problem

now that that is fixed, i have no overdrive. with the tcu unplugged i get 1st in 1-2, 3rd in 3, and a 200-250rpm drop shifting into D.
with the TCU connected the best i get is 3rd with lock up...
so did we. apparently all they got rid of was the switch. so if you wanted to wire a valet mode into your jeep you could just run a switch on that wire. 12v is power mode (normal mode) and just leaving it open is comfort mode (aka shifts at 3100)
this thread is old as hell, but, i dont care. its linked to alot, and is full of wrong information.
ALL cherokees with an AW4 (1987-2001) have a TCU. 87-96 are behind the passangers side dash.
97-01 TCU's are located under the steering column. the myth that the pcm controls the AW4 in 97-01...
TV cable is adjusted and working, i even disconnected it and extended it all the way, bangs into gear when shifting at idle, same 3100 rpm
tps is off slightly from my expectations with the older jeeps, this one is coming it at .90v closed 4.10v open. not adjustable of course.
Been a LONG time since ive been here. but i grabbed another XJ.
2001, blown AW4
swapped in an AW4 from a 1991
running it off a 1995 TCU
jeep shifts perfectly, except that at WOT the max rpm the jeep will see is 3100-3200
in 1-2 it will go to redline.
the ONLY thing i can think of at all...
