    Front Dana 44

Maybe you can explain it cuz i can't wrap my head around this... is the stock ford setup just one arm on both sides or is a Y link like my rusty's kit? I'm sorry if thats a dumb question but i really don't know. The D44 i'm considering is out of a 78 Bronco.

    Front Dana 44

Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. I was just thinking that even a low 9 with dana 30 knuckles wouldn't be that hard to build and I would have a lot more gear choices every D44 I've seen stops at 5.38. which for 34's would be fine but I have been on 34's for a couple years now with the same...

    Front Dana 44

Thanks for all the input but that all seems like it could get ugly real quick & I don't wanna half ass this, I'm gonna start a new thread on the high 9 for the front seems like that would be a really cool project that would yield huge rewards.

    Front Dana 44

I have a good lead on a front HP D44 out of a bronco and really like the option of going up to 5.38 gears. I hava HP D30 now with swampers 34's and have never broke anything. What are the challenges with the ford HP dana 44 in a 88 xj. I think I will have to buy new rims, obviously bracket and...

    Bending solid stock

Just a thought but almost all steel yards will sell cut length solid stock, I just got a price from my vendor they want $28.00. If you have to run it go ahead but I would look into makeing a Virgin Trakbar. good luck

    Rustys Suspension

I have rustys 6.5" long arm and love it I have no problems other than the cross member is a pain to install but I think they all are. I've had it almost 2 years now, I am run 34" swampers trimed 3" off the front and 2 off the back and will be going to 36" tires when the 34's are gone. I do not...

    cutting d-plate

If you go with a skill or jig saw dont forget to use cutting wax=jigsaw or A-9 cutting fluid for skill saw, if you can't find A-9 a thin light cutting oil will work fine, will smoke a little but will keep the blade from cloging up.

    Coil springs keep turning

Coil springs are just that springs they are tempered to facilitate spring, the weld will crack and break as soon any type of strain is applied, do not weld to any part of the coil that you do not want to have a crack in. Not to say you cannot weld the very end but be aware that it WILL crack and...

Not enough room for a wench!!!

If you have any welding skills, it will be very easy to notch the center out 4" down the 6" wall and weld in the plate that the winch mounts to that way you save the two inchs on your approach angle gusset the winch mounting plate to the remaining 2" of bumper and cap what is left open where you...

    Need Opinions on paint

Don't know where you wheel or if you are planning a gloss or clear coat but one thing i did and have never regreted was painting mine with a military light (sand) brown. It is actually an epoxy coating it is flat with no shine at all but I'm telling you it cannot be scratched, after all the...

    learning to weld

As an aerospace welder of 14 years and now a welding inspector I think, there is some good advise for someone in your shoes being offered up in this thread, a few more ideas to consider, Take a class BEFORE you buy a machine, while I agree that MIG is the best machine for the hobbiest, the other...
