very strange...
i have a 91 4.0 auto w/ abs and did the swap not even a month ago. compared the pedal assemblies and found them different.
i don't know the history of my car since i only got it two years ago. and i definitely don't want to call anybody wrong. but i had to change mine...
if you want to keep the pedal assembly, you'll need to re-drill the hole for the connecting pin. the greater length of the push rod will be evened out by the spacer, but the mounting angle for the booster is different and requires a different pivot point for the brake pedal.
as foamy as water out of a sink faucet with the little screen thingy attached...
too foamy for a small leak in a hose. plus, that usually pushes water out of the leak instead of sucking air into it.
(and the bottle cap is new and the hoses are not old and look good)
i suspected the cylinder...
hi,
my friends '90 wagoneer started running hot recently. we checked and found the pressure bottle dumping coolant around the coolant lines. when we released the pressure and had it running w/o cap, we saw the return coolant being all foamy...
how can air get into the system (and plenty of...
x2 the last post, just did the swap with no problems...
to get to the pedal assembly, take out your instrument cluster. then you can directly reach the two upper screws holding the pedal assembly. taking the cluster out takes 10 min tops, saves you some bruised knuckles and a bent back.
the...
the belt could be the culprit: if the engine is cold it would be a bit stiffer and may not grab the pump at start up but will after a short while of running...
have someone watch it when you start the car in the morning?
could it be the pump takes some time to build up the pressure to power the steering? so would we have to look for a failing seal / pressure valve allowing the pressure to drain when not running and thus making the steering hard when starting up?
that might still indicate a faulty pump - but...
ok, final report on the issue:
i swaped a '96 booster + pedal assembly in w/o problems. stops nicely and makes no stupid noises anymore.
did not have to make a spacer or drill any new holes - it was pretty much a direct bolt on
a big thank you to anyone contributing to this thread, you helped...
ok, what about the electronic part? i guess the black box is different - are the wheel sensors the same? if so, could i (and yest, mo money, mo problems) upgrade?
hi guys,
yesterday my abs pump started making strange(r) noises at first and then stopped the same a bit later. now i don't have any brake assist and have to stop the car with both feet on the pedal...
i read about the conversion back to no abs before, although i seem to have trouble finding...
thank you all very much, guys. as always, your knowledge saves me hours and hours of fiddeling around.
i'd buy you all a beer if i could,
cheers,
michael
