    Rebuilding AX-15

Hey all, it's been a while since I've been on here. I'm in the process of rebuilding my AX-15. My reasons for doing so: when in 5th gear and decelerating, there was a horrible grunting noise that started 3 weeks ago, 3rd gear grinds, 2nd gear is starting to grind. I've got the transmission...

Fooling the Computer for Better MPG

I'm definitely going to have to read this thread. I'm so glad others are interested in getting more out of the 4.0L. 20MPG around town is pretty darn good. I'm a big fan of the I6 and I think there are a few more miles per gallon somewhere in there. Does anyone tune the stock ECU? There's a...

Poor college student's guide to replacing a floor pan.

I promised I'd a write-up a while ago, so here it goes. I bought my 93 2 door 5 speed 4x4 Cherokee with 67k miles on it. I noticed some floor pan rust on the driver's side and used it to negotiate the price. I needed a vehicle asap due to my Nissan's engine failure. It wasn't until a month...

    Scenic Wheeling Picture Thread

Here are a few pics from my December road trip around the southeast USA. Upper Tellico shots below: Alabama on my way back home: More recent. In Orlando, FL: Matt PS: Utah looks incredible. I'm gonna have to make a trip out west soon.

    i need a lift

Why exactly do you need a 2 inch lift? If you're doing it for looks, I'm sure Martha Stewart has her own forums. If you're gonna go offroad with it, it's absolutely necessary that you know how to work on your rig. Matt

XJ Floor Pan Rusted Floors FAQ

So, I'm pretty much done with the floor pan install. I still have to weld the parking brake brackets to the underside of the pan and put my console back in. Also, Opie kindly donated some roll-on bedliner that'll be going in soon. I'm taking a break now that it's functional so that I can...

XJ Floor Pan Rusted Floors FAQ

I had a good friend come over because I needed a second pair of eyes. After looking at it with the same stumped expression as my own for a few minutes, he said, "Dude, I think I found it, but I don't think you're gonna be happy about what it is." He pointed out that the hinges on the driver...

XJ Floor Pan Rusted Floors FAQ

I'll be sure tomorrow, but I believe the HF POS rods were the culprit. I got a ride to Lowe's today and grabbed some 6013 1/16" Lincoln rods. Wow, what a difference. The Chicago Electric welder seems to be doing a fine job. The majority of the weld is intact after using the chipping hammer...

XJ Floor Pan Rusted Floors FAQ

OK guys, here's an update. Went to go use the SEM Weld Bond earlier this week. Spent a ton of time prepping the surfaces. Turns out that one of the 2 parts of the adhesive had dried within the tube. Ok, screw it, I'll just arc weld it in with the crappy welder I bought the previous day...

    door sag/separation, welding question

Any pics of the sagging door? I have a similar problem on my XJ and it's really starting to get to me. Thanks, Matt

    Rot the Casbach

Well, rust will continue to spread to any surrounding steel. I live in Florida, but I bought a Cherokee that spent most of its life in Ohio. As to how bad they get, here's what happens if you neglect fixing the cancer (and this is, by no means, the worst): I'm in the middle of replacing my...

XJ Floor Pan Rusted Floors FAQ

Looks good. I dunno what I'm gonna do about this door, but I'm giving up on it for now. I need to be able to drive again. It's not like the thing's perfect to begin with.

How To: Put new floorpans and patch holes in my XJ (really long)

Damn, that is hotness! I think I need to pull the rest of my carpet out. The console that you have, is that factory? I have a 5 speed and the thing extends along most of the trans tunnel. It also has a tube in there for routing the a/c. Matt

XJ Floor Pan Rusted Floors FAQ

For insulation from heat, check the first page of this thread. There are a few options. I'll probably go to Home Depot and find something comparable to install on the pan above the exhaust. I guess I'm gonna go ahead and do the jack stand thing to straighten the frame. I've just gotta find...

XJ Floor Pan Rusted Floors FAQ

Ok, here are the shots of the door I promised. And here are some pics of the door slightly ajar. Oh and here's a pic of the pan with some of the screws going in (just test fitting). The pan is listed as being for a 1996 XJ. I've got a 93, so I've had to 'customize' it here...
