Well I fixed it!! :D
I looked in the distributor again to to take a look a the dist pick up (someone said that might be an issue). I pulled off the rotor (which I hadn't done before) and the tab that holds in position was broken, which allowed it to rotate about 10 degrees. I dug up an old one...
I still need to do that. I have a 2 yr old and a 3 month old and my wife's been working a lot lately. I only get little windows to work on it.
Thanks for the replies.
Finally had the chance to work on this a bit more. I put my timing light on it, and at idle, it looks to be about 16 degrees advanced at idle, which I believe is about right. It certainly doesn't look like the timing chain skipped. It will idle like this okay for 10-15 seconds, then the timing...
I have obsessed about the best radiator options as well.
I recently picked up a 99 cherokee with the intention to fix a few things a flip it. It needed a radiator so I just got a Spectra from Rockauto (under $100). Some searching online indicated they have a good reputation for a decent, low...
In case anyone is curious, I pulled the valve cover and there is no obvious damage there. All rockers/springs/pushrods look fine. Its actually amazingly clean and nice looking under there.
So no simple problem. Going to have to dig deeper. Borrowed a compression tester and will see what that says.
Thanks for the replies. I haven't had a chance to dig into it yet (benefit of having multiple cars, you don't HAVE to fix things immediately), I also have a broken pipe in my basement that has my attention right now.
I'll check under the valve cover first, if there isn't anything obvious...
Thanks. Good advice here.
I did just recently buy a harbor freight inspection scope to look into some plumbing in the house. I'll use it to look in the spark plug holes.
I'm really hoping a for something simple like a broken rocker arm....
Today while driving my '93 XJ I floored it get through a yellow light. Had it wound up pretty good and something 'popped' and now it barely runs. It seems to idle pretty good, but give it any gas and it sputters, rattles, coughs and generally barely runs. It really can't get over 2200 rpm.
I...
Hi, my wife's daily driver is a 99 xj. As she is hauling kids around, she really wants the electric door locks to work properly. I replaced the actuators in the front doors and those are working great now. The rears are still an issue. New units don't seem to be available on any of the sites...
Just in case anyone needs this same item and finds this thread. The dealer says this item is discontinued, and when they did have it, it cost $109.
So off to the junkyard!
