    98 Trans issue

Have you tried adjustng the transmission throttle valve cable? If the cable is broken, loose or if the spool valve, in the transmission's valve body is hanging up, it will be very sluggish.

Need good wax for white xj

Using clay on the entire vehicle, after a good washing, smooths and cleans the surface of the remaining paint. An XJ can be clayed in about an hour, well worth the time. Use a lot of the lubricating spray detailer for best results Larry

Time sensitive! Looking at buying a XJ

No free lunch here. To past the California smog test, for 2000 year and newer, there can be no CELs and all the ECM’s internal tests must be completed, the ECM basically tests itself. If it isn’t running clean, it will have CELs or not all of the internal tests will be completed. A better...

    H4 e-code housing differences?

The issue I had with the Autopals is how thin and weak the glass is. Bought a pair of them ten years ago and in a week-long trip to Death Valley and northern Nevada, the gravel roads broke both of them. I have since repeated the trip several times running IPF headlights without any breakage.

For Those of Us Subject to CA Smog Testing

We can do the same except we use later model engines and matching transmissions, and they run better than the old, carbureted engines, I grew up with carburetors and hated them, fuel injection is one of the greatest improvement in driveability, mileage and emission, win, win, win! Changing...

    Engine Clattering

If it is an around-town beater, drive it until it pops, if you want a dependable vehicle, replace the engine, at that mileage, a lot is worn and making noises.

Supercharged LS3 crammed into an XJ

People transplant drivetrains here all the time. California has a big automotive scene with lots of custom fabrication. As Islander pointed out, the entire engine and the rest of the emission system is moved over and the smog specs changed to those of the newer car. It must be done correctly...

For Those of Us Subject to CA Smog Testing

I grew up in the LA in the 60's and during 'smog alerts', it was even worse, the 70's cars at least had rudimentary emission devices and ran leaner. I keep my cars a long time and having to test them every other year is a hassle but is the cost of cleaner air, it is so much cleaner than it was...

For Those of Us Subject to CA Smog Testing

And we'll happily send them to you. Too many people have moved here from other states, driving real estate prices through the roof and forcing many young people to move out of state. You live in a state with cheaper property, it's a natural choice. Progress marches on. All the western states...

Project Scope Creep: Ham Radio Install, Kenwood TM-V71A

Our 2001 Jeep doesn't have a convenient place in the console for mounting the TM-V71A, an overhead position does work, with the control box located under the driver's seat, using a separate speaker, also mounted overhead on a steel plate run between the sun visor clips. The microphone uses...

For Those of Us Subject to CA Smog Testing

Not absurd at all as long as the right collections of parts are used to ensure it's clean running. My 2001 4.6 stroker has passed California's smog test twice, the tech never guessed it was anything but stock. And it was done with the Factory tune and the ECM has not been reprogrammed When...

    Shocks

AFAIK, the 5160 are sized to fit particular vehicles. The 5165 are available in a range of sizes and valving, for customs fits. A few have stem tops, most have eyes, top and bottom. https://www.shockwarehouse.com/news/bilstein_5165.cfm I run the 5165s front and rear, the ride is superior to...

    Disc swap?

The "Edit' feature is available to paid members. Go RED. It amazes me how the many of frequent posters are freeloaders and do not pay, the information you get here is worth more than the $35 a year cost of membership. Pay up or stop complaining. Become a paid member.
