I think there is a ground wire that is bolted to the center of the firewall in the engine compartment. This is the main ground for the instrument cluster. check that. I ran a wire direct from my Batt to this point and that solved alot of strange things on both of my XJ's.

I know it has a chrysler 8.25 Diff. How can I tell if it has limited slip?
I had a suburban years ago that I had to put an additive in for the clutches and come to think about it thats what the noise sounds like.
Is there a way to tell?
Neither XJ is throwing a code.
I will try the fuel filter since I doubt they have been changed over the last century. But I noticed the 99 doesnt have a filter in the fuel line but the 96 does. Whats up with that? Do they just rely on the filter on the pump?

My daughters 97 XJ has a noise when she backs out of the garage. It only happens when the she is turning in reverse. It sounds like something is binding up. Any ideas?

I have two XJ's
They both over the last mont have started acting up.
The 99 will start usually on the second try and runs fine then all of a sudden starts missing. If I rev it up the problem goes away and doesnt return until the next morning.

Thought I would follow up on what I found on my nock and clunk problems.
I pulled my rear drive shaft and coated the inside of the shaft and the output shaft of the transfer case with anti sieze compound and that solved the clunk sound when stopping and starting from a stop sign. So who ever the...
I am looking for an old XJ with a 4 or 5 speed and a 4 cyl engine.
I understand there were a few versions of the little 4 banger.
Which of the versions was the best one and what years did they use that engine so I can narrow my search.

OK here is my next one.
Does anyone know why XJ.s rust at the corners of the windsheild where the gutter ends? It would be nice to figure out a way to stop this from happening.

OK here goes, I was reading past threads on this problem and in the past there were many who chimed in on this.
The one I find the most interesting was a chrysler mechanic responde to this problem and by the way he described the fix it sounded like this is nothing new. He said to pull the shaft...
So I assume I need to unbolt the drive shaft from the rear diff and then pull it from the transfer case. Clean the inside of the driveshaft slip joint and then clean the shaft that in the transfer case and relube all.
Does this make sense to you??
My slip yoke that goes into the transfer case has a zirk on it which I keep geased doesnt this do the same thing?
It sounds like from other posts that I have read that it doesnt.
