I'm a big fan of OME shocks. They ride great, very good variable valving and are VERY capable. I use to race in jeepspeed and all the guys were snapping their bilsteins but I never had a single problem with my OME long travel shocks.
Oh and I drive like a psychopath!!! :)
Thanks for the feedback. The Mattracks are very cool but they're too big to carry around. When it's simply too deep and I need to float on top of the snow we just use the snowmobiles. The decision to go with chains is for practical reasons. I like the idea of just tossing the chains in the back...
Ok I started looking into snow chains or mud chains as I use my Jeep for rough work at a large farm on a regular basis. The farm is in upstate NY in the snow-belt plus we get truly evil mud each spring (even the tractors get stuck).
I frequently drag entire trees up to the farmhouse and pull a...
Yes I did it, it's an excellent upgrade. Even with stock rear drums braking is much better. I got the Wilwood Brake Proportioning Valve from Summit racing (about $40).
Junk the stock Proportioning Valve (it's all front no rears) and just replace it with a three way block. I found a small hole...
Ooh thanks another good link. I like this website, I'm a defector from JeepsUnlimited.
I'm swapping a a D44 w/Detroit Locker for the rear but for the front I like the idea of constant traction with the limited slip. Also I'm not exactly sure how it will perform but I'm hoping it will help...
I'm looking to buy a Detroit TruTrac limited slip for a D30 and 4.56 gears.
Any recommendations for a reseller with good prices that can sell the gears and any other little goodies needed in the install.
Thanks
I race at Rausch Creek's rally park in PA, there is one turn that always screws me up. It's a long right at a base of a hill then a long climb up the hill and into a gradually tightening left bend. About 2/3rds up the hill you'll get to about 40-45mph when the turn starts getting tight and then...
Oh that's a question I was going to ask the rally guys, what's a good Camber setting for rally racing? I've noticed some cars the tire was leaning in so far that it looked like they had a broken ball joint (but it was a front wheel drive VW). Also does the solid front axle change the need for...
I totally agree, rally racing is the rebel sport of today. Personally I'd prefer an event where vehicles race from one side of a mountain/forrest to the other using only poorly maintained 4-wheeler trails, jumping downed logs and flying sideways just inches from trees on either side. I love...
Speed bumps are smooth at two speeds, 5 mph and 50 mph, I prefer the latter. I do admire the capability of long travel suspensions and tried to get as much wheel travel as possible (practical) while maintaining maneuverability. I started practicing at my friends farm in upstate NY where I also...
Hey Weasel,
From my experience there are two ways to slide around a turn, the CORR technique and then the classic rally turn, what you are describing sounds more like the rally turn.
For the most part the CORR way is scrub a lot of speed prior to the turn then romp on the go peddle to get the...
I'm not saying that CORR drivers are bad just if you apply a different driving technique to a light agile vehicle you could make better times.
Remember when HUGE monster trucks were all the rage, they jump a line of cars make a U turn and race back. I remember there was a Nissan (I think)...
Sounds like a fast SCCA ClubRally/ProRally.
So what about a CORR type of an event? I know they have a sportsman class for poor people like us but I've never see a Jeep out there (at least on TV). To be honest I've been watching the pro rally guys run and I think they could take a CORR driver...
