The logic of your post seems to indicate you think the TPS controls throttle blade opening. It does not, the 4 liter is cable driven, and it's just a computer input not an actuator.
However the IAC is a stepper motor and can directly effect throttle by allowing more air in.
I think Tim has...
There's also all sorts of vacuum behind the heater controls that can leak. Vents typically default to defrost with loss of vacuum and there is less vacuum at higher load or wider throttle opening. You have a leak somewhere. Get the propane bottle or smoke machine out.
The half circle piece of metal you're talking about is the actual bearing. Your picture is of a main journal that rides in the bearing
The actual bearings themselves are the dull grey half circle inlays that sit in the caps. They are very soft so be careful with them. You can actually scratch...
It's really easy to gall or damage pinion threads. Especially if the pinion nut is a locking nut. You don't wanna spin a locking nut up and down the pinion too many times. I almost ruined my pinion on my d30 as well.
I now use the old pinion nut and grind the topped of the nut off where the...
Chock the wheels and put it in drive and have someone give it gas while standing on the brakes and you watch the motor. Then do same in reverse. You will be able to see how much movement the engine has.
Don't do it for prolonged period of time as you can heat up a transmission pretty fast if...
Some set depth by shimming the inner race and some shim under the head of the pinion/inner bearing. Depends on the axle, you will need either a setup bearing or setup race.
Other than a basic rebuild kit with new seals bearings etc it's not worth rebuilding if there's actual component failure. Most of the big parts in there cost more than a new tcase from a junkyard
Make sure the VSS is clocked properly for the number of teeth on the gear. There are numbers printed on the plastic housing which are indexed by the retainer.
Wow this IS an old thread!
Just did all 4. Found that spicer are about 40 a side or all 4 joints for like 93 including tax and 2 day prime shipping on amazon. WAY cheaper than parts house, and they are genuine spicer made in USA & Canada...
You can get the bearings off with a normal old cheapo bearing separator from HF without destroying them. The shims might take a hit though. Just make sure you inspect them before you reuse them to make sure.
