    under coating

Yeah, me too. I prefer the LocTite brand and it does fairly well (compared to the ideal: a complete strip/cut and weld). You just have to do a very thorough job of getting rid of all the loose surface rust you can (the angle-grinder is your friend in these situations) and be vigilant about...

    rust bonding bondo

I've worked with bondo quite a bit and had mixed results but I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's a total waste of time in all cases. I think the most important thing to work towards is making sure that all metal surfaces are completely free of rust before you start applying the filler. If...

    Bluish-grey rear axle oil? Yikes.

I've taken to throwing one onto the oil pans of the cars we operate but having one in the refuse pan is a great idea.

    Bluish-grey rear axle oil? Yikes.

I looked! I looked! I'm a relative newb and I do search but sometimes you gotta get the search criteria just right in order to hit on the right article. As far as the smell, good Lord. I've had a couple Budweisers and I can still taste it in my sinuses. I'm not kidding, either! Thanks...

    Bluish-grey rear axle oil? Yikes.

I just replaced the oil in my rear diff (Chrysler 8.25 on a 95 Sport) and it was dark grey with almost a bluish tint to it. Am I being paranoid or is this metalic particulate matter as a result of sheer? Smelled nasty, too.

Softer ride on a lifted Jeep (without the help of narcotics)

I've asked a question pertaining to this sort of a question before and all of you folks have been of great help. So here goes another one... I love my XJ and I've always driven it to Canada fishing because it's reliable and it's almost like one of my buddies. I'm also grown up enough to admit...

Opinions wanted on a quieter ride.

Auto-makers like BMW and Mercedes spray urethane foam into the door pillars to isolate road noise. I suppose you could do the same to the rear quarters. I sure wouldn't want to be the one to have to dig it out for any rust repair or to pound out any dents! I think i'm going to go the...

Opinions wanted on a quieter ride.

No kidding? Well...guess what tires I'm buying soon! Anybody ever do anything to make the backseat more comfortable? I think I remember seeing somewhere how somebody added rear-headrests to their XJ. I've searched hi and low but I can't find the link I was thinking about. That or I could...

Opinions wanted on a quieter ride.

Tires are regular Goodyear wranglers with about 15K worth of tread left on them. I'd really like to get some Bridgestone Revo's but the tread design looks like it'd be noisey. Exhaust? Stock. Has been cat-back upgraded in the past but the supposed gains weren't much to care about. Good call...

Opinions wanted on a quieter ride.

Warning....long post ahead. Every June I drive up to Canada's beautiful Lac Seul to catch post ice-out walleyes and my 93 XJ Sport has always been a trustworthy way to make the fourteen hour journey. Now, my dad, after several health issues and what-not isn't the same man he used to be and my...

What's the worst that could happen?

Exactly. One of those "learn the hard way" type things I don't want to have to deal with. I'll be posting on this same forum with a entry that starts "So I let my cracked manifold go for too long..."

What's the worst that could happen?

It's not too bad. Just enough to be noticeable (you can definitely hear it). But like you I've imagined the worst; stuck in a snow bank in sub-zero temperatures and sucking in exhaust fumes.

What's the worst that could happen?

So what's the worst that could happen if I let my cracked header go for a winter? Yeah, yeah, I've done a search and read all about replacing it but here in Iowa Old-man Winter is swiftly coming and I'd like to be able to put off the job till spring. Is there any risk?

    Shake, rattle, and roll.

Right, I've had that in mind (steering damper) as I don't ever remember it being replaced in the ten years I've had it. RocklandXjer> As far as the previous post not sounding urgent enough then I apologize. It definitely is bad enough that I have to pull over to the side of the road. Very...
