    Help, Im stumped...

A new radiator??? Just some thoughts. You've modded your ride ...jacked it up ...put larger tires on it but have stock gears. The oversize tires effectively lower your final drive ratio ....and raising your ride increases the already dismal drag coefficient of the little "brick on wheels"...

    exhaust

I have the same setup in my 2000 ...the underhood sticker says the vehicle is classified by the EPA as an LEV ....Low Emissions Vehicle. Mine started life up in the Northeast where apparently many of those states have adopted California emissions standards. My dreams of installing a good...

    P.T. 4WD lite on dash .....

Hi all, I'm a relatively new member, been lurking about and picking up some good info. I come today with a question about a problem: I have a '00 XJ, 4.0L, AW4 with the NV242 TC (has part and full-time 4WD). The problem I'm having is that the part-time 4WD light on the dash will not go out...

Is a 180 tstat gonna do harm?

What a thermostat does is determine when the coolant begins to flow through the radiator and it also determines how quickly the engine will reach normal operating tempurature ....and that's about it. Warm up time on a smog controlled eninge is a relatively "dirty" event and the faster the engine...

    Tranny Problem

First thing I would do is see what kind of trouble code(s) is/are being generated.....that might help narrow your search. Just because the light goes out doesn't mean there are not any codes stored. What does the fluid look like? Is it at the correct level? ATF over time will turn a darker...

    Boring TB, Venturi effect good?

The tapered, smaller diameter area of the stock TB on the HO 4.0L is in fact a venturi (the Renix may have a similar configuration). Rather than using it as a pump (such as in a carb to draw and atomize fuel), it is used to create a strong vacuum signal for the MAP sensor...one that is readily...

    Boring TB, Venturi effect good?

Consider the year of your XJ and the emissions package it has (federal 49 state vs California).... the earlier models and/or Federal emissions vehicles may not be affected by the increase in TB diameter. They also may not be as affected by TB's that have been modified by simply removing the...

    Boring TB, Venturi effect good?

I have a 4WD '00 XJ (stock save for a DynoMax catback) and tried the over-bored throttle body route and found the transmission (AW4) had lost all of its "snap" when shifting. Rather than having the normally firm feeling when shifting, the tranny ooozed between gear shifts. The necked down area...

    passanger windows

I'm not familiar with the '94 driver's door layout. Do you have a grouping of all the door, window and lock switches? The "module", if you have one, is the assembly containing all of the switches. What does the wiring harness in the drivers door connect to? This is where having the factory...

    no brake lights or hazards.

Just got done dealing with this on my Jeep. Turned out to be a bum brake light switch.... The switch is removed from the mount by simply twisting it. Got a replacement at the dealer...set me back $32... but the fix was easy and all my brake lights work. Mike 00XJ

    changing PCV valve.

The reason the thing breaks is because the rubber grommets have turned to stone. I have a '00 and my grommets were as pliable as cement.... the only way the CCV was coming out was to cut out the petrified grommet. I needed to replace the valve cover gasket anyway, so I just bought new grommets...

    passanger windows

Some theory regarding the window motors: It is a DC motor so that means its rotation is reversible by simply switching the positive and negative leads to the motor (this is what the door and drivers panel switches do). Make sure the window is not racked in the frame (cocked or jammed...

    passanger windows

I couldn't shell out a hundred smackers either; FSM's are available online.....usually used and well under $100. Do a Google search for "factory service manuals" and it'll come up with a few online vendors. Check eBay also. You should be able to find one for not much more than you'd pay for a...

just shoot me now.... low oil pressure

This is a stock engine? With how many miles on the clock? What was wrong with the original pump and why did you install a "high flow" pump? What was the oil pressure like with the stock pump? Low oil pressure, like the previous poster said, is often due to worn crank and rod bearings...tossing...

    passanger windows

This sounds like a two-bit answer to your problem but I would strongly suggest you get a factory service manual for your Jeep....and, for your electrical problem, an inexpensive VOM (volt/ohm meter) available at your parts store or Radio Shack. I just got done resurrecting my power windows...
