I just tried the hammer and that's not working. It from lookin at it it seems like the spring eye is not quite circular shaped. The brushig will not go in. I not even making any headway when I pound on it with a rubber mallet. Lubricating it doesn't look like it will help becuse the brushing...
I'm replacing the rear leafs in my 88. The brushings are not fitting into the new leafs. I'm using crown replacement parts. Should I pound the brushings into the spring?
no but the jeep is in 2wd right now and the whole steering system has been replaced. I appreciate all of the helpful advice. The new ignition cylinder and switch come in tommorow and hopefully I'll replace it without freezing my but off in the cold.

the JB weld breaks down over time. Ive tried using it to repair the sending unit leak but it breaks down after a few months. It makes a good temporary fix but by no means is it permanent.
Ok so my 88 XJ has about 180,000 miles on it. The transmission has never been replaced or had any repair work done to it. (the fluid and filter have been changed though) Around 40-50 mph the transmission constantly shifts between 3rd and 4th. Does anyone know what would fix this?
