I can't believe my battery still works

Admittedly, I don't drive my XJ much. Some years are well below 1k miles driven. But even then, I last changed the battery in Nov 2013, making it the longest lasting car battery I've ever had. It does seem to crank a bit slow nowadays, but I'm going to see how long I can go before it completely...

36 weights to balance a tire?

Hi all. Was doing some work on my XJ and I noticed that one of my tires was just plastered with 1/4 oz weights on the inside of the rim. I have 32 weights on one side and 4 on the opposite side in the wheel. I've had these tires for a year or so, and they've been great (35" BFG KM3's), but the...

    Possible trailer hitch wiring issue

I too thought that was a possibility. We also tried a known good adapter/converter on two vehicles with the same result.

    Possible trailer hitch wiring issue

I use my XJ a lot to tow a small-ish trailer (4 ft. x 8 ft), mostly in lieu of buying a truck to haul dirt, wood, stuff that won't fit in the cab, etc. The trailer lights work great for braking and turn signals, but the trailer lights don't light up when the headlights are turned on. The...

Knuckle rotation questions - caster change

I forgot to update where this thing stands now. After I got everything put back together and on the road, I discovered something that I failed to take into account: by rotating the inner C's, it brought the drag link closer to the axle, resulting in the drag link hitting the stock sway bar...

Knuckle rotation questions - caster change

Much progress has been made in the last few weeks. I did a bunch more grinding to prep the axle C's to be welded. XJEEPER also recommended that I get some inner C gussets to help reinforce everything in that area, which meant more grinding to prep for welding. Here is what it looked like after...

    Quality headlight harness upgrade ?

I upgraded my lights and harness back in 2010. I got my harness from here: http://www.rallylights.com/hl282s-upgrade-headlamp-harness-for-switched-ground-vehicles.html I was originally sent the wrong harness, but after I was sent the right one, my lights have been flawless ever since. See...

Knuckle rotation questions - caster change

Bump: TLDR: Looking for a local to weld my rotated axle C's into place. Also wondering what the latest opinions are on ball joints. Need to replace my Moog joints, but don't know if Moog is still a solid option.

Knuckle rotation questions - caster change

I am pleased to report that I was able to get my axle C's to rotate after grinding further into the C's. I've got them rotated to 8 degrees, which will be a night and day difference compared to them being a 1 degree previously. I need to replace my ball joints as at least one of them is...

Broke down in the back country while hunting (HELP)

Yay! So nice to know you've fixed this and that your XJ isn't likely to leave you stranded again.

How to bend the end of your tail pipe

Back in the day, I cut off the pipe so the exhaust ended before the shackle. Later on, when I replaced my muffler, the shop put in new piping and installed it to easily go around the shackle.

Knuckle rotation questions - caster change

Thanks for looking at the pics, guys. I now think that I attacked the weld much more so than the inner C. I don't believe I really got into the inner C much, which is likely what is causing my inability to free it from the axle tube. Next time I have a chance to grind, I will focus most, if...

Knuckle rotation questions - caster change

I read the thread in great detail prior to reaching out to you. I was able to see the pics using a Chrome extension that makes them visible. I'm hoping for some advice one where I currently stand. In my opinion, I think I've ground sufficiently, but the C's won't budge. I'm putting quite the...

Knuckle rotation questions - caster change

I started grinding away on the welds holding the axle C's on the driver's side. I must not have enough of the weld ground away because I can't get it to rotate with a BFH. I don't want to grind too much into the axle tube, so I'm looking for a second opinion on where I need to focus my grinding...

Knuckle rotation questions - caster change

Sounds good. I plan on rotating both sides so that they are at 8 degrees. I'll make sure the arms are the same length on both sides and then go for it. Not looking forward to this project, but I'm looking forward to the end result.
