Just want to tie this one off - too many threads out there with no conclusions. Replaced the upstream o2 and CTS (yeah, at the same time. no time to do it all scientific like) and boom, back to normal. Runs smooth as butter, fuel economy is up to the mid-teens, and the only dash light that is on...

Everything is back together, save the lower radiator hose. It's being a PITA to connect to the water pump. I checked with a straight edge along the belt and it is as straight as I can tell. I'll fill it up and run it after work.

I got the Napa brand. Very tempting to go cheap, but I don't want to do this job again any time soon...

Installation question: how tight should the bolt be in the crankshaft? Haynes says 20ft/lbs, I've seen other sources as high as 80? I'm more inclined to believe Haynes, but figured I'd ask the real experts :-)

Excellent advice! Yeah, the bolts in the harbor freight kit for my application were just short enough to fit between the HB and radiator support. The outer ring had walked a full 1/4" puff of the wheel. Culprit found.

Awesome, thanks for the replies. I'll most likely just get a new upstream o2 and CTS. Can't test them currently as the whole front end of my motor is in pieces :-P

Got her towed home tonight. Pulled into the driveway, popped the hood and shined a light on the balancer and there's definitely a miniscule wobble. Looks like my weekend just got booked. Thanks for all the replies and help!

I did replace the post cat o2 sensor, which is how the CEL started turning off. Would the pre cat sensor cause poor fuel economy? Sorry for all the noob questions, this is my first foray into diagnosing engine electrical problems.

I will second the thank you because I've been having the same starting issues. Now I have yet another step to take before throwing money at it.

Fuel pump is on my list of replacements to make. I'll check out wiring whenever I can get around to that. Thanks!

Oooh, I've been searching old threads for starting issues and this is brand new info, and that makes me happy. Have you done the repair or have guidance on that?
