    transfere case linkage

im not sure that i completly understand your question but I can tell you the bar than goes from the tranny to the bracket on the body all pivots with the linkage. There is a bushing on the tranny side that the bar snaps into and a bushing on the body side that the bar just rides in. The arms...

The rear driveline should be the same, the wires are not plug and play, you need to swap the shift gate, use the shifter plate that came with the np242, the rest of the linkage will work fine. As for as the wireing goes, my experince is on a 98 and I had to track down the wire to make the light...

    Transfer Case Exploded!!

I had one do it to me a while back, driving down the hwy and had major vibes for about 2 seconds, then crash bang pop. The case broke in half. My cause was a bad CV in the front driveline, it binded and caused the case to break in half. Now on another note, I have an np231 out of my 98 XJ I am...

    NP231 converting to NP242

Now that we are on 242 mods.....Anyone ever seen or heard of a way to make a 242 have a 4:1 low range and or 2wd low range? I think I read somewhere about a beefier output shaft, whats the deal with that. Hayden

    NP231 converting to NP242

Thats right, I used the short plate with the 242. When I pull cases I usually just take the nut off so that I don't have to pry the rods out of the bushings, they become loose if they get taken in out too much. Hayden

    NP231 converting to NP242

I finally got my swap completed. One thing I noticed that has not been mentioned is the tab that bolts to the side of the t-case for the shift rod needs to be changed out with one for an NP242. The np242 one is indexed the same but it is a little shorter. Other than that everything else went...

    NP231 converting to NP242

How did the wireing go? did you just tap into the blackw/white wire at the back of the firewall? Was the bulb allready there or did you have to install it? Everything else a perfect direct replacement? Thanks Hayden

Sounds good. I still have everything to swap mine just havent done it. It sure would have been nice to have the other day in all the ice we had. Its hard to find the time and drive to work on my own when I work on everyone elses for a living. I'll get it done some day. Hayden

    Is my D35 a c-clip or non c-clip ?

The best way to tell is to look at the axle tubes where they meet the brake backing plates. If it stay the same size as the rest of the tube then its a c-clip. If it gets bigger then its non c-clip. It gets bigger for the larger bearing. Hayden
