This lack of replies worries me... But there is an update. The fuse for the o2 sensor heater is linked to something in the transmission. So they are possibly related. I hope so.

Here is some back ground info about how I found the problem: it's a 98 xj, auto, six cylinder, 4wd. My cat needed to be replaced, as well as my head pipe fixed. I took it to an exhaust shop, and they fixed both. Turns out that when they fixed the head pipe, it put the upstream o2 sensor too...

Okay, fixed the problem. It was a fuse! I found that the cps and tps were not getting five volt reference signal, so I looked at a wiring diagram and that all runs off a fuse. Checked the fuse, and voila! it was bad, swapped in another 15 amp fuse, and bingo! fired right up! I checked the...

Well, it actually isn't open. I set my dvm to the 20000 ohm range, and it is showing resistence, just a LOT of it. Much more than the new sensor that I got. But before I just start replacing parts, I would like to check some things out. Does anybody have any idea why my gauges would go...

Yup, it was definitely open. I had my dvm set to the 2000 ohm range, and it showed open, so here we go! I'll post the results of replacing the cps.

Does anybody know of a link to or location of an online or electronic service manual for the '98 xj? I guess it could be similar years, as long as it has info on the 8.25 rear end. Or does anybody know of the torque specs for this differential? I appreciate any help offered.
