OK, it's a california vehicle so there's virtually no corrosion issues anywhere. I wish I could find a pinout diagram so we could at least test each pin to see if we can narrow down which one is the issue so we can at least figure out what system we need to be looking at.
My son's 98 XJ is having this issue. No codes, runs great, zero obvious problems. We're going to get it smogged and two different shops get this error when they try to smog. Both places' computers say that it is ready to smog, but this happens when they actually try to start the tests...
Replaced the cap and had the same problem. Pulled all plugs to see what they looked like and they're all perfect, even tan color. Pressure tested cylinders again and they all were stable at 180-185 psi. Decided to throw a radiator at it since it's the last part of the cooling system I haven't...
I noticed this morning tha the cap looks pretty old, the rubber is pretty hard and brittle so I’ll replace it today. Is 16PSI the correct pressure rating?
Not really, filled it, ran it, topped off, etc. Have not done any long drives since then though, just short trips in town. I used a thermostat that’s supposed to purge air without having to drill the hole, but perhaps I should have done that anyways?
Ah, sorry, it’s a 98.
This morning, engine cold - I added nearly 1/2 gallon of coolant/distilled water to the radiator. Expansion tank remains at the hot full level (is this system supposed to pull coolant back into the radiator from the expansion tank?) even when the engine is cold. Oil...
I had the long start issue, replaced the fuel pump assembly, then ended up with the same problem youre having. I guess maintaining fuel in the lines caused the injectors to leak into the cylinders. Replacing with new injectors fixed the issue for me.
OK so had some weirdness with engine temps today and wanted to get some opinions. FWIW I did a cylinder pressure test on this engine when I bought the jeep and all cylinders were 175-185 with no pressure loss. It has a supposedly rebuilt head within the past year. Apologies for the long post...
Roger that, I am all about the top quality parts. A good example - we did the fuel pump since it wasn’t maintaining pressure in the rail and I sprang for the complete Delphi unit. I hate having to fix things twice.
Hey Tim, thank you! While you typed out this awesome reply I actually found a thread in teh FAQ about no start troubleshooting and unplugged/replugged the CPS a few times and it started right up. Looks like I’m headed to the parts store to get a new CPS. Thank you for the speedy reply, much...
