I'll answer this better this time. For 28 years, my gauge has read slightly under 210 when things are stable and it's generally cool outside. If it's hotter outside and I stop at a light or are in stop and go traffic, it would climb to just over the 210 mark. Another millimeter or so to the...
Just some more data for those that care. A third sensor (Standard brand) reads even higher than the rest. So the closest so far is Crown which reads about 15 degrees high.
According to my verified temp gun, the thermostat is opening right at 195, or as close as I can realistically measure...
That's exactly what mine used to do and what I'm used to. But stupid me broke the sensor and now the two replacements I've tried both ride a little over 210 at best and go up from there to near "orange" when it gets a bit hot and the auxialry fan kicks on. It reads constantly now where the...
The factory sensor snapped in two and i discarded it. So I can’t compare to it directly. A while back I did use a gun to compare some areas of the engine/cooling system for kicks and the gauge read similar to what the gun read. I had verified relative accuracy of the gun using a piece of...
I busted off the plastic connector on my original coolant temp sensor in a ham fisted moment. It's the one at the back of the head that runs the gauge. I have now replaced it with two separate new sensors and both of them read about 15 degrees higher than my factory unit. Is this common? Is...
I have a '95 with the 4lt and automatic.
When I remove the gas cap there is a lot of pressure in it. It hisses excessively, to me. I can't be 100% sure but it seems to be worse than it used to be. I don't remember it doing this when new. I think it is getting worse. I put a new gas cap on...
I have a '95 with a Painless headlight wiring harness. The harness plugs into the factory plug that goes to the headlight. The factory harness triggers a relay to turn on the headlights powered from the battery. There is a separate relay for high and low beams. Many times when I turn on the...
I don't know how far you are willing to travel but Hansen Fire Equipment in San Leandro will fill a CO2 tank while you wait. They will also pressure test it if it is getting older.

I finally got a chance to clean up the rig yesterday. After I hosed all the mud off the undercarriage and let it dry, the trans shift just like it is supposed to. Unfortunately, I'm still not exactly sure what was really wrong but it runs fine now. I guess it was a little too much moisture...
Thanks for the suggestions so far.
I'm not going to get a chance to clean it up and really look at it until this weekend.
Any other suggetions would be helpful.
Thanks again.
I just had to go through the mud hole at Hollister today even though it looked pretty nasty. Well it was. It was part snot, part quicksand and part water.
My engine compartment looks pretty clean and the engine seems to be running pretty smooth. 1995 I6 with automatic.
When I put the trans...
I had the 4.5" RE arms in the stock locations. When drooped, the axle really looked like it wanted to fold back under the Jeep. I think my steering was the only thing that kept it from doing so a couple times.
I then installed the drop brackets. It rides great and the Jeep doesn't want to...
I would also check you battery cables and connections.
As my Optima was going out, that was my first symptom. After about six months it started cranking slower as well. New battery, now it's no problem.
I doubt if it has been 3-4 years it's the battery, so check the cables and connections.
So this means you have a stock XJ sitting around to measure? Then yes you can measure the springs while the vehicles are sitting on flat ground. An easier (to me) way is to measure from the center of the hub to a line on the body above the hub.
