Loud booms this morning at 11:15 AM Central time

Sonic booms? I remember growing up on ranches in Wyoming in the late '70's and early '80's and hearing sonic booms from the Air Force jets before the restrictions on them went into place. Pretty cool.

Please help identify this rear end noise source

That.....is.....weird. My first thought is something tinny like a drum rubbing against a backing plate or a parking brake cable bracket or something vibrating. Have you put your hands in various places around the axle housing while having someone rev it up like that? I wonder if you would be...

How to get out of a fresh car loan?

She already tried going back to the dealership and to the bank. No dice from them. I told her pretty much the same things you all mentioned here, so far. Pretty hard spot. Dunno. Well, thanks.

How to get out of a fresh car loan?

Long story short: My sister purchased a brand new minivan with her fiance, who promised to help her with half the payments. That was six weeks ago. He has since gone completely nuts and turned into super-stalker psycho dude, and now she's on the hook for the entire loan. She's a single mom from...

Did you disengage the external inertial dampeners?

    Heavy steering

Hmm. If you do jack it up and cycle the steering, not a bad idea to have someone do that for you while you crawl under it and watch for loose parts. Although, the only way I would think ball joints would affect it is if they were tightened down too tight. Also make sure everything is greased up...

    Heavy steering

I'm just curious why you don't mention anything about the steering pump or gear. I mean the actual steering gear where the hoses plug in, not the steering linkage. Have you raised it up and operated the steering in both directions with the engine running and the engine off, just for comparison...

    Temp question?

Car technology changes. Engine operating temperatures that seemed ideal a generation ago no longer are. Emissions requirements are always getting tighter. Consumers are demanding better fuel economy. I think a lot of people are misguided in thinking cooler is better, when what they should focus...

    Please reconsider editing policy

Barely related question, but fresh thread so... Is it not possible, then, to delete a thread I started if it gets no attention? I made a post in the Northwest Chapter Wanted section that I'd like to delete. Can't find a delete button. Thanks, Chris

Jeep wanders like crazy in 4wd

My money would be on a torque steer problem. Do you still have normal open diffs front and rear? So that, even in 4x4 mode, you truly still only have two driven wheels? Power going out one side of the front axle during forward movement will exacerbate an issue caused by loose steering or...

    Why is my fender overheating?!

I just wanted to quote this post as I chortled with abandon while reading it. Well written indeed.

Need mechanic's toolbox moved-Bothell, WA, to Monroe, WA

Tow guys are quoting me $150 to move my box 15 miles, which is out of my budget. Looking for someone with a trailer & winch or similar. Probably clocks in around 1000lbs. Pay ya $50 to get it from A to B for me. Thanks! Looks like this: IMG_2341 by theirishavenger, on Flickr[/IMG]

    Why is my fender overheating?!

I can't speak to the heat issue, necessarily, but I do know I had an issue with the terminals on the back (bottom) side of the relay box backing out and making intermittent connections. In my case it was most often the fan relay. It'd fail and the vehicle would overheat. Always after a time...

    Cherokee plastic model kit

I lurk on several plastic modeling forums. Pretty regularly ever year, they hold a survey where you can fill out your most wanted kits. I've been filling in 'XJ Cherokee' for about three years now. I have not heard to what degree model companies pay attention to things like this, but at least...
