    p0121 & p1682 - More troubles

UPDATE: Problem fixed by replacing the TPS and resetting the CEL codes. Have been driving the jeep for about a week now and it seems to be working well. BirchlakeXJ was right, testing does not conclusively rule out the TPS being bad.

    CPS

Yes you should have one on the bell housing of the transmission. When mine (98 Sport) was acting up it would get warm and then shut off but restart after a while. When mine went out, it would crank and crank but never start up. Buy mopar original not off brands...

    p0121 & p1682 - More troubles

Yesterday when driving jeep it started acting funny. It would rev up to 3000 rpm but it was like it didn’t want to shift to the next gear. I was on residential streets but I couldn’t get it up past 30mph. It felt like I had a weed eater for an engine. I limped it home, broke out the...

    Shuts off while driving

I didn't run the engine long enough to heat up the last one. I know that it is in the hole in the correct orientation but I am having a hard time seeing/feeling to make sure there is the proper spacing between the grommet and the bell housing. I'm getting ready to burn it to the ground.

    Shuts off while driving

CPS Grommet - Crankshaft Position Sensor The dealership gave me a new CPS sensor today. I think that the plastic grommet may not be installed correctly. This would explain in my mind why the one I ordered from rockauto.com cranked once then blew out and why the new one does not work. Does...

    Wheres my fuel pump?

I dropped my tank prematurely when my cps crapped out on me. It is a PITA, I would recommend getting out the multi-meter and checking the CPS before you drop the tank. I had a similar situation where I could kinda get it to fire a little by spraying ether into the intake manifold and the...

    Shuts off while driving

Just found the receipt from the stealership. I bought it on 10/4/10 for $124, the sensor died on 2/18/11. Four and a half months is kinda crappy. I've heard similar stories about after-market CPS failing but I figured the dealership one would be okay. I looked up the warranty for MOPAR parts...

    Shuts off while driving

Think my CPS is going bad again. It died on me again and I checked it with my new multi-meter. I bought a mopar part from the dealership. Is there a better brand to try instead? Is there something that would cause them to keep going bad?

    AW4 Slipping, Now Stalling Engine

About 200,000 miles on the engine and transmission. Bought it used but I don't think either has been rebuilt. Fluid level and color both look good. Between the lines and pink. I haven't changed the fluid since I got it though which was about 4 years ago. (I know I'm a bad person). I bought...

    AW4 Slipping, Now Stalling Engine

98 xj sport 4 wheel drive with about 200,000. Noticed my transmission starting to slip a few days ago when I was accelerating quickly. It also noticed a weird stutter when I was braking the other day. On Friday when driving on the interstate it kept stalling on me but it would start right back...

1998 Jeep Cherokee ignition lock cylinder replacement

Yeah I have AW4 its also a 98 sport with 200,000. I tried to wiggle the shifter but nothing happened. (Im used to this from before I did the NSS rebuild) I also popped off the cover and confirmed that both of the cables are still attached to the shifter.

1998 Jeep Cherokee ignition lock cylinder replacement

I have tried three different keys that all used to work. Each one is worn to a different degree. And yeah, I spent about an hour and a half on Monday wiggling the steering wheel while I was waiting for a tow truck. Since I can't get the key out I think I will have to drill it out. If I remove...

1998 Jeep Cherokee ignition lock cylinder replacement

Is there a way to manually disable the steering wheel lock? Or can I just break it by turning the wheel really hard? My wheels were crooked from parallel parking when the cylinder locked up on me but the day before it locked up and my wheels were 100% straight and the wheel wasn't locked. I'd...
