My 88 Comanchee 4.0l 5 speed was killing rotor. It turned out to be a bad cap and isnow running great, however, now it makes a knocking sound when in gear except 4th. The sound changes speed with the rpms. Does this sound like a dead sync sensor?
It turns out that the cap was bad. The truck is running great now, expect that in every gear but 4th I hear a loud knocking sound that speeds up as rpms increase. I'm thinking that I might have fried the sync sensor, however, it is running better than ever.
I have been having issues with bucking and backfiring above 2,000 RPMs at cruising speed in my 88 Comanche 4.0l. After replacing and fixing a number of parts I've narrowed the problem down to the ignition. I test the coil and stator and both seemed fine. I wasn't confident in the stator test...
No, I haven't pulled the distributor yet. If it were an indexing problem wouldn't the miss happen throughout the RPM range?
Also, under full throttle I don't get any missing or backfiring.
I've bypassed the EGR and I'm still getting problems. It is starting to get worse and actually backfire through the exhaust.
Could a bad O2, air temp sensor, or bad/leaking injector cause this?
I have an 88 MJ with a 5 speed. I’m having an issue with bucking above 2,000 RPMs. After testing, replacing and cleaning almost ever sensor and ground I checked the MAP sensor. I got the following specs:
A to B 4.01 volts
A to C 5.00 volts
A to B hot at idle .99 volts (S/B 1.5 to 2.1)
I figure...
