WJ knuckle swap and 1-ton steering complete

    1. Do you mean the rotor doesn't fit around the od of the hub? That's normal. Just put it on jack stands, 4wd, and grind the hub flange until the rotor fits. You only have to take off less than 1/16. 2. Not following .... Video and pictures?

rebuilt 4l60e - hunting for 3rd and 4th in low.

Yea, the TCC brake switch relay never makes sense to me (too dumb). I was looking at it all day yesterday though and finally figured out why it didn't make sense. There was a short somewhere, which was causing me to see continuity (but not voltage) from several grounds to the positive battery...

rebuilt 4l60e - hunting for 3rd and 4th in low.

It gets weirder. I was positive my TCC brake switch was wired correctly and works. I am still positive it is wired correctly now (though i think something may be shorted.. but even that doesn't make sense). I built a test ECU harness. Just powers, grounds, serial data to the obd port, and the...

rebuilt 4l60e - hunting for 3rd and 4th in low.

I finally got my buddies scanner hooked up and found out some interesting/strange stuff. Scanner is showing that the Brake TCC switch is constantly closed, even when I hit the brake, or remove the relay entirely. No voltage on pin 33, but ECU says it's closed. Also looked at the shift points and...

rebuilt 4l60e - hunting for 3rd and 4th in low.

Yea I know. Not XJ related, but you guys are the only knowledgeable guys on the Intarnet. If it helps, I also have a bunch of 5.3 swapped XJ's with 4l60e's so this is SORT OF applicable. Had a 4l60e rebuilt by a local shop. I NEVER pay someone to do anything, because it always ends up being...

WJ knuckle swap and 1-ton steering complete

The Timken part I had (rusty) was what pretty near everywhere listed for 01, which is why I got it in the first place. You may be correct though. Either way, the SKF part is the one I ended up using, which as you say, does away with the caliper spacer requirement, and the decreased stickout is...

aftermarket fuel gauge compatible with 98 XJ.

Does anyone know of an aftermarket gauge that is compatible with the stock 98 XJ fuel sender? I've done a bunch of LS swaps now, but as most were for myself or fellow hackers, I've never really bothered with getting the stock cluster to work. I just use OBD data for everything except fuel...

Replacing the 00+ coil rail with aftermarket coils

That makes more sense and was sorta what I was figuring. Sure makes things easier, knowing that :). Thanks .

Replacing the 00+ coil rail with aftermarket coils

:| Isn't wasted spark real bad for stuff generally, and would cause pre-ignition at least twice per revolution..? As for TPS, I'd replaced the TPS after we got the first TPS code immediately after doing the engine swap. Entirely possible we got another bad TPS, but I suspect harness as it's...

Replacing the 00+ coil rail with aftermarket coils

I don't recall if this got posted somewhere, but does anyone know: 1. How does the ECU signal each of the 6 coils, with only 4 wires? 2. What is the firing order (assuming you're just doing a straight through harness extension) on the viper coilpack? I'd bought the coilpack a couple years ago...

5.3 powered, full framed XJ on BJ60 axles

So after pondering this for a while, I did end up building a runner truggy. Fully street legal, handles buggy trails pretty well. The benchmark around here is a trail called Fuct, which my v8 Xj managed, but definitely incurred some minor carnage and took a good 30 minutes to clear. The new...

Expedition transforming soft top - looking for ideas and input

Yea, it's not an XJ. Whatever. Naxja has the best community of technically minded wheelers and I figure here is going to land the best input. So build info I'll try to keep short. I took a 95 runner, chopped the front of the frame off and rebuilt it to accomodate a 5.3L mounted super low (oil...

86 xj, brakes will not bleed. Not a complete n00b.

I didn't delve too far into it because ... why bother when I could just upgrade to the 98 setup. Here's what I do know. The 86 era XJ (as well as a few other Jeep products in the same era) used an enormous single piece cast MC with integrated cast reservoir. They came mated to a single...

86 xj, brakes will not bleed. Not a complete n00b.

Could very well be the same issue. We went out on a trip today (and omg the hilarity. EVERYONE broke except me, multiple times), and on the way down a mountain, buddies front brakes started to stink real good. He stopped (barely) and shut off his truck (which he shouldn't have done as we'd just...

86 xj, brakes will not bleed. Not a complete n00b.

Eyup. That was it. Maybe this'll help someone in the future. For reference, this was an 86 cherokee with what we thought were stock brake components. Turned out the PO had replaced the MC with the newer aftermarket revision MC, but did not install the matching new revision booster. They're...
