Solved hard starting problem about a month ago with a Cardone reman PCM. 96 xj 4.0 has run great since. Last night, out of nowhere, it started running rough and throwing random misfire codes on all 6 cylinders. I’ve read the threads, I know there’s a million things that could be causing this...
96 XJ 4.0 RWD auto. 160k.
First turn of key to ON: no lights in info panel except BRAKE (brake is not depressed), START gets crank but no start.
Second turn of key to ON: no lights in info panel except BRAKE, START gets crank but no start.
Third or fourth turn to ON: GEN and CEL lights flicker...
Changed several things in one day, including NSS and ignition switch, and now my instrument panel is dead. Cleaned and greased the two connectors in back, will go looking today for a bad ground, but also wonder if the new ignition switch I installed is the culprit since gauges worked fine...
Been chasing a hard starting problem for months. Have eliminated many possible causes. Usually takes 5-15 tries to start, cranking but not starting, hot or cold, although hot usually starts faster. Recently noticed that it sometimes starts in fewer tries from Neutral, and that sometimes it will...
I literally did this upgrade yesterday, so here’s another tip: I bought a set of remanufactured Bosch 4-hole injectors from eBay. The seller and multiple reviewers said they fit my 96 XJ. And they did, to the extent that they fit and my Jeep is running. However, the injectors did not have...
Supposedly these did, and these exact ones have been used by other posters and said to have worked, and not having done this job before it did not occur to me to examine the picture for the grooves that the clips go to, but thanks for the snarky and completely unhelpful response. Do you happen...
Dud the injector. Jeep starts and runs fine. Don’t know yet about the pressure, and I’m a little worried because the replacement injectors did not work with the clips that came off the old ones, so I didn’t use the clips. We’ll see.
Just swapped injectors on my 96 xj 4.0, swapping what I suspect were the original injectors for 4 hole remanufactured Boschs. I was concerned because the clips that came off the old injectors had nowhere to lock on the new ones, so I left them off. The Jeep is running well after the swap, but...
Thanks. I’m hoping that’s it. I’ll do the injectors this weekend. I already had a set ready to do an upgrade. Fingers crossed. Looks fairly likely that the injectors I have now. are the originals, with 150k on them. They’re due.
Okay, got a fuel pressure tester. Here’s what I know (again, 96 4.0 auto with in-tank regulator):
Warm engine, key to ON: pressure reads about 52 psi.
Engine running: needle shakes, but center of where it’s shaking reads about 55.
Engine off. Pressure starts dropping immediately
After 10...
